We are going to St. Thomas (Frenchman's Reef Marriott)for 3 full weekdays in late September.
Does anyone have advice on must sees?
We think 1) a day sail for snorkeling, getting an overview of the area (suggested day sails?)
-- 2)ferry to St. John & rent a car for exploring -- 3)hang out on the beach at MorningStar & shop St. Thomas.
What are we missing??? Love to hear your advice.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I'd take a day sail that takes you to the Baths at Virgin Gorda (you'll need a passport, though.)

Pick a day to shop when there are only one or no ships in town. You could also take the Atlantis submarine out to Buck Island. The restaurant above the lobby at Morningstar is very good & when you're shopping downtown, eat lunch at Gladys' Cafe or the Giggling Gecko which is in International Plaza. Hope you enjoy!

if you have your passports and can get a reservation i highly recommend the trip at www.newhorizonscharters.com - it's an excellent trip. goes all the way around tortola with a stop at the baths amoung other spots. crew is really nice and all is well done. if you are interested you should contact them immediately - like tonight. they are booked months ahead sometimes.
you really should have dinner at havana blue the restaurant in the morning star section of your hotel. it is one of the most memorable meals i have had anywhere. try to plan your seating for when the moon is rising if possible.
carrybean. i'm confused. if buck is the island off st.t which is the snorkel island off st.croix??

Virginia, there's a Buck Island off St. Croix, too. A bellman told me when I first moved here that every Virgin had a Buck.

How do you find out the days that cruise ships will be docking in St. Thomas and St. John? Is there a way to get this information ahead of time?

Agree with taking a day snorkling trip. For your trip to St. John, I would recommend taking a taxi tour (just ask when you exit the ferry) and then hike over to Honeymoon beach or Canille (spelling?) Bay to spend part of the day.

1) Day sail to BVI or the Winifred to St. John (from STT).
2)Definitely see St. John, Also recommend taxi tour.
3) Coki Beach (if no cruise ships in port) for snorkleing. Must see Megans Bay (rated one of the most beautiful beaches).

My DH and I were in St. Thomas in May for a week staying at the Morningstar. We had a wonderful time being right on the beach. One thing we did learn was that if there are no cruise ships in town then some of the stores will close. Made that mistake on our 2nd day there. Coki Beach was nice, but take advise from the other post to go if there are no cruise ships. We went there when there was a ship and it was extremely crowded. We loved St. Johns and are thinking of planning a trip there next year. The beaches are beautiful.
