Newbie needs help Barbados

I am new to the site and would be grateful for help with the Accra Hotel in Barbados. I am looking for recent information on the Accra Beach Resort in Barbados. How would you rank it? Some Websites give it 4 stars but I have learned through personal experience that some ratings are inflated. Anything less than a 4 diamond property would be a HUGE disappointment! I would appreciate your opinion of this hotel. Our last trip was somewhat disappointing since the hotel was not as nice as travelocity described. I hope to make sure that I get it right this time with the help of you all. Thanks!

Personally I do not care for the beach in that area. I've heard it's nice, tho. You might check at Royal Pavilion (west coast) -- totally refurbished last year & great.

Thanks Lois. May I ask why you do not like the beach in this area? I've read that the locals frequent this beach. Do they dislike tourists? Just wondering?? Thanks. I will check the Royal Pavillion. If anyone has any other information about the Accra it would be great.

Accra is located on the busy end of Rockley Beach. It's too busy for me. Also, the sea is rougher in this area. Lots of locals and visitors from hotels not having beach access so it stays pretty croweded. I prefer it quieter and calmer.

Thanks Lois. I also prefer quieter and calmer especially on vacation. I have read all of your posts on Barbados and they have been beyond helpful! Thanks

We stayed at Accra about 3 years ago. In fact, we went there 2 years in a row. The first year, everything seemed very nice. Accra had recently renovated the entire resort. The following year we weren't as happy. In one year's time we had noticed that resort maintenance wasn't up to par. We also had a bad experience with the water supply. For some reason, the water main in the area broke or had to be replaced and we were without water for showers or toilets for 48 hours. The resort management compenstated us with 2 small bottles of water and 1 complimentary breakfast. Even after expressing our disatisfaction to the manager, nothing was done to provide sanitary needs. You probably won't run into a situation like this but you'd think that a 4 star accommodation would want to help out it's patrons in difficult times - that wasn't the case. Barbados is GREAT. The people are friendly and helpful and the island is beautiful. My advice- go and enjoy a beautiful island but stay somewhere else.

Thanks Ted. Your information was very helpful. We have crossed that property off of our list. I am not intereted in staying anywhere that does so little to compensate their guests for something as important as water!! We try to stay far away from places like that.
