Nevis villas & car rental
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for next June and fell in love with Nevis while researching. We would like to have a private villa, with a plunge pool and great views. We found two that are within our price range at Cliff Dwellers. Has anyone stayed there or have insight on the properties?
Also, we would like to rent a car but have heard it is kind of an ordeal and that you have to get a temp. license from the police dept. Is this true?
Thanks so much for your help!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Nevis is a lovely place for a honeymoon. I don't have any info on villas, but as far as a license, your car rental company can either provide one for you, or take you to the police station to get one. It's not that big of a deal. We went to the police station and it took all of 10 minutes, basically just fill out the form, pay your money, and they give you your temp. license. Easy peasy!

Cliff Dwellers is a "development" of private villas and condos (the condos are just now being finished). Some of the villas are relatively new and others, while several years old, are nicely maintained. You don't mention which villas at Cliff Dwellers you are considering so it's impossible to give you specifics. Many of the villas there are "high end". As the name implies, Cliff Dwellers is located on a bluff overlooking the shoreline of Nevis and St. Kitts across the "narrows". The villas have a westerly exposure so you get terrific views of the setting sun. The location of Cliff Dwellers is ideal in that it's less than a 10 minute drive from Charlestown, all of the Caribbean side beaches, most of the Atlantic side beaches and many reastaurants and beach bars.
As mymoosie says, renting a car is easy. Many car rental places will have the paperwork for the temporary licence. If they don't, you can get the license at the main Police Station in Charlestown (across from Best Buy) or at the Newcastle Police Station (on the main island road just past the airport). Both places are just a few minute drive from Cliff Dwellers. Getting the license takes only a few minutes.

Thanks for your helpful responses! Glad to hear that the car rental process isn't too much trouble!
We are looking into two villas at Cliff Dwellers. The Pelican & Happy Hill. Any information would be great!!

Thanks! Exactly what I wanted to know!
Should I be worried that we won't have enough to do on Nevis? We don't necessarily need to be active all the time and we are looking forward to relaxing but we would like to do some excursions. Has anyone been to St. Lucia as well and can compare the two?

There is plenty to do on Nevis, if you feel so inclined. Biking, kayaking, rain forest hikes, hikes to the volcano, island tour, Botanical Garden, day trip to St. Kitts, and much more. It's a small island so driving anywhere is easy and close.
Take a look at www.nevis1.com for a comprehensive list of things to do, restaurants etc. There is also a Nevis forum: www.nevisforum.com and a lot of Nevis lovers on http://myislands.myeyez.net/forum.
Great place for a honeymoon.

Another tip...
depending on who you rent from, not all car rental companies will necessarily deliver a car with a completely full tank of gas like in the US. Just take note when you get the car where the gas gauge is and fill the tank to that same level before you leave. It's very common to get a rental with half a tank of gas. As long as it has a half a tank when you return it, that's cool.
Also, when you go to the police station for your licence, bring cash. They don't take credit cards.
Lastly, DO NOT think you won't have enough to do. You probably won't even leave the villa the first few days. It is SO beautiful it will take you that long to believe you are actually sitting on that veranda looking at that view. The pelicans diving into the ocean right next to the deck is entertainment enough!
Have a blast!
