We are traveling to the BVIs the first week in November (which cannot be moved) and have run into complications with lodging: 1) Peter Island is out (cost and yachters); 2) LDB is booked for a convention for half that week; and 3) Guana is holding that week open to book the entire island. I'm considering 3 nights at Biras, then 3 nights at LDB (after the convention leaves). Is that our best option? We like small resorts, beautiful, secluded beaches and grounds, reasonably fancy accommodations and food, and lots of activities.

Sounds like a great trip to me. I think both Biras and LDB have what you are looking for.

Hi Brenkj, I have been to Biras and Guana Island, both beautiful and secluded resorts. I have seen LDB, but never stayed there. Biras is the best, wonderful cottages, great food, lots of excursions if you need to keep busy and a lovely secluded cove for a beach. You do need to go a little way to the swimming beach, but they give you bicycles and it only takes a few minutes. They even have small boats with motors, if you want to go to another Island in the harbor and be alone. It was the perfect vacation, as far as I'm concerned. I would really not want to pack up and leave in the middle of a weeks vacation, but that's up to you. LDB looked very nice, but I did not see the rooms. Just had lunch there.

I can't say I have a favorite, they were both beautiful & relaxing and I would return to either. I went to Guana in the off season, May, and there were a total of 12-16 guests there the entire time. Very private. Some nights we would all end up eating together, and we had a great time. The view from the rooms was outstanding, as they were all up high and you could see other Islands in the distance. The beach was lovely, you just had to hike down, or they would happily take you.
Biras had more activities. You could do something different each day, or just lie on that beautiful beach. The restaurant was very good and such a lovely location, overlooking a bay with sailboats coming and going all the time. At night it was lit up with all the lights. The rooms are cottages at both resorts and seemed very private. Biras probably had the edge on the rooms, with the outdoor showers. Heaven. They also had a separate sitting room which was nice.
We were there in High Season, but it never seemed crowded. We stayed in the beachfront cottages, but they were all close to the beach, so it really doesn't matter which you choose. That beach is coral covered, so you can not swim, but just the sound of it at night puts you to sleep.
I own a condo in T&C now, so haven't been back for a few years, but I don't believe you can go wrong with either resort.

I for one would probably stay in one place (we used to do the island hopping - three nights here, three nights there - but have come to prefer one stop - old age I suppose). We are LDB fans (but have had dinner on several occasions at Biras)(we can't stay at Biras until our daughter is several years older as I believe Biras prefers to have younger kids as guests - and by the way I certainly agree that they should have the right to make this choice and enforce it). Perhaps one night have dinner at LDB - the dining pavilion is a lovely spot (though nothing can beat the dining room at Brias when you see ocean on both sides from the castle like setting). LDB does have a pool and spa now and you have access to the rest of the island - it is always fun to drive around a day and go to the Baths, the harbor shops in Spanish Town, but perhaps Biras can arrange for a rental car to be available at Leverick Bay/Gun Creek). I think there is a small spa in Leverick Bay (don't know what Biras offers along this line). We hope to stay at Biras when our daughter is older. If you've packed light, changing hotels isn't probably a big deal (I suppose a taxi from Leverick to LDB would do the trick and you get to enjoy the scenery of the drive from the NOrth SOund to Spanish town).

Provogirl, any suggestions on best cottages to request (or avoid) on Guana? We're looking for great views and private sun deck. I think they're all pretty similar, just looking for hints. Thanks.

If you are looking for privacy and a sun deck at Guana, Dominica 4 might be a great choice. It is quite roomy, has a small sun porch and steps leading down to a private patio.

If you want the ulimate getaway, the North Beach Cottage is wonderful! It's the only accommodation on the beach and has a seaside deck, lovely terrace with a small pool and fabulous views.

Scubamom: Is Dominica 4 the one shown on your site (or maybe it's on the Guana site--sometimes I get your photos and theirs confused) that has two chairs facing out on a covered patio? When we were there a couple of years ago we were in Anegada 1, which we enjoyed very much, but we would prefer to have a covered patio rather than an open one. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not to get too picky but can anyone tell me how Dominica 4 compares to Upper Guana or others? We're looking for great views, a private "sunny"/open air sun deck, and privacy. Any specific reco's help would really be appreciated. Leaving tomorrow! Thanks!

Ejcrowe, two cottages with big covered patios are Barbados and Upper Camanoe. Barbados has a larger room and a breeze. Upper Cam is fine in the cooler months, but the kitchen blocks the breeze, so it can get hot in the summer. Eleuthera is the one above Sunset Terrace and it also has a big covered verandah. Fallen Jerusalem has three rooms clustered around a huge verandah - we've had friends stay in these and FJ1 and 2 are roomy and really catch a breeze. As I remember, they both have a private balcony off the back of the rooms too.

Iammurphy, Dominica 4 has a large terrace that gets quite a bit of sun during the day and it is privately located at the end of a walkway. As Ecrowe mentioned, most all the Anegada rooms have sun terraces.
