Green Turtle Cay
We're booked!! My husband and I + our 4 best friends are headed to Green Turtle Cay in June for 9 days. We are excited to get plenty of fun in the sun, sand, island hopping, and relaxation in during those 9 glorious days. What I'd like to know are the "must-do's" in GTC. We've been to the Abaco islands before (Elbow Cay) so we know somewhat how the culture is and the laid back living, but what can we absolutely NOT miss?? Also we've read about the swimming pigs somewhere in the Bahamas, does anyone know if the pigs are nearby? We will have a boat for most of the trip to island hop. THANKS for any/all your input!

Swimming pigs are in Exumas, requires flight backtracking through nassau or Ft. Lauderdale. No way by boat.
You can ferry to Treasure Cay, gorgeous stunning beach. It's a long drive to Marsh Harbour, but might be worth it.
Assume you've been to Nippers?

A must for us is Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar on Green Turtle Cay, the home of the Goombay Smash.
As mentioned, Nipper's on Great Guana Cay would be a nice day trip. Sunday Pig Roast is popular event as people come from neighboring cays to hang out to live music sipping a frozen Nipper (which will sneak up on you so be careful.
Easy day trip to Treasure Cay beach from GTC. There is Coco beach bar and rental loungers so you can enjoy one of the top beaches in the world. Typical shack food of fried grouper, burgers, etc. I think you will need to ask the ferry if he can radio ahead for a cab. Or, you might call Cash's Cart Rentals to see if they can meet you for your cart rental.

We liked:
* going by boat to the Jolly Roger (at Bluff House) for lunch and chilling on their deck and almost deserted pool- good grilled fish-
* dinner and music at Pineapple's Bar
* lunch and lounging by the pool at the Lizard Bar (husband like the Lizard burger but the grilled fish sandwiches were good for me)
* get some Coconut Bread from Sid's grocery and make french toast for breakfast from it
* dinner at the Green Turtle and dancing to the Gully Roosters is a must
* buy conch salad from the man at the ferry dock - can't remember which days but I think we got it on a Saturday
We enjoyed a day trip with Lincoln Jones- you might consider that or a day with Brendal- snorkeling or fishing and a beach picnic-
Sure you probably went to Man-O-War when you were on Elbow- but, if not, ride down there one day and have lunch at the dock (forgot the name of the restaurant but very good food), walk around the island and see the sail shop, buy some of the fabulous cinnamon buns from the lady in the golf cart to take back with you for breakfast the next day
* so,so much more- walk down the streets and see every shop - have a wonderful time!
www.abacoforum.com has great info....
PS While they are certainly not the swimming pigs at Big Major- in the Exumas near Staniel Cay, there actually are some pigs on one of the deserted Abaco cays - they have been discussed on that forum recently:

We also loved venturing to Treasure Cay, it was such a beautiful beach. We rented a boat one day and went to some of the surrounding islands, where we saw a ton of stingrays. Of course goombay smashes are a must, as well as the gully roosters. You will have a great time!
