Bahamas summer weather?
Hello,
Looking for a fun place to get married next August...My fiance and I will be with about 10 people, and we are looking for an island with the following criteria:
1.) Beautiful beaches
2.) A nice hotel on the beach with a great pool and swim-up bar
3.) Excellent snorkeling, as many of us have never done it before
4.) Plenty of boat trips to chose from (snorkeling cruises, glass-bottom boat, sunset cruises, etc...)
5.) Fun, moderately priced restaurants.
Can anyone help me with this?
Also, what is the weather like in the Bahamas in August? I have heard it is hotter than some of the other islands.

Do you realize this is the 26th question you've posted in the last 4 weeks asking where to honeymoon?
You're making ME dizzy with your indecisiveness! What will you do when it comes to nailing down the 1001 other tasks which go along with wedding planning?
Of course this is an open forum travel board and you're welcome to post 1000 questions if you so choose, but you need to focus a little bit.
You still appear to be at square one after all that posting!
It appears you've already sifted through most of the pertinent info.
You've posted about St. Lucia and the Caymans and the USVI's and several other places. What's holding you back from making a decision?

I would suggest Compas Point as a great location, and since it is out of the way on New Providence (Nassau), it will be a alot more laid back, but you can get a jitney to downtown.
There are several companies that do off shore snorkle trips, so you will have lots of options of things to do.
There are alot of restaurants in Nassau from Greycliff's to Wendy's and in every price range.
There is also some good shopping on island as well.
I would suggest going to a local tavel agent for more ideas, since they can give you lots more options all over the carribean.
August is hot, but not really hotter than parts of the US, and there is usually a nice breeze, and showers to cool things down.
The only outisland that might fit the bill would be Harbour Island, it's a small island off the coast of Eleuthera, with several nice hotels, and restaurants and you could be married in a lovely quaint church built in the late 1700's or choose a gazebo over looking the ocean.

If I am bothering you so much with all my questions -- why bother to answer?? As for the 1001 other tasks that go along with planning a wedding, that is why we are getting married in the Caribbean! Once we pick an island, all we have to do is line up a JP and a place for the ceremony -- SIMPLE!As for what's holding me back from making a decision, I am a trained journalist and simply enjoy research and getting other people's opinions. I learn about islands, and then post questions. RELAX!

Sorry if my message sounded like I was complaining about your posts in general.
My point was simply that there are SO many options in the Caribbean that at some point you simply have to go with your instincts.
Having tried to create 'perfect vacations' myself on numerous occasions I understand your dilemma.
But there is simply no way you'll be able to learn enough (through reading) that you'll suddenly realize that there's one and only one best place for you to honeymoon.
You could probably plan 10 honeymoons and have a great time on all of them...maybe in slightly different ways since some of the islands have unique character.
I hope you can narrow things down to form a plan which seems just right. So far it still looks like you're at the very beginning after a whole lot of work. That was what struck me yesterday.

I just had another thought on your trip, how about Harbour Island, there are several nice hotels on island and you could stay at one and have your friends and family stay at other locations on island. It would be easy to arrange a nice wedding on the beach or other sites.
I had a wedding at Runaway Hill in 1991, and it was beautiful. We were married by the Bishop of the Anglican Church, under a lovely flowered archway. The reception was done there as well, we even invited all the guests staying at the hotel to come and enjoy our day.
Runaway Hill is very small only 10 guest rooms, so get the honeymoon suite, as it's closest to the bar, lol, and dining room. Try this website as well www.runawayhill.com.
Have a great time, we are usually there in August as well, and it's hot but with the ocean at bathwater temp, it's just heavenly.

Glad you are not engaged to "travelis" LOL! Have you considered the Jamaica Grand in Ocho Rios? You have an AI option, a Swim-up bar, about 5 restaurants and there own dock with snorkeling excursions. We have stayed there 3 times and love it.
