anyone been on an easycruise???
Has anyone cruised on the Caribbean easycruise (of easyjet and easyhotel fame?) I was wondering how it compares and if you really save that much money... Looking into possible cruises for Jan or Feb of 2006. The price including port taxes is $26 per night. I know this doesn't inbclude food- but I'm more interested in the ship itself- and what type of people use it and work on it. Seems like a good idea
Just wondering...
Thanks!

easyCruise has never been to the Caribbean, so you might get a better response if you post on the European board. I'm interested to hear what people think, however, particularly about the kinds of people who end up liking the ship. The islands are interesting, and the ultimate cost for the cruise itself will be equivalent to a cheap island inn, so that's always a plus. Just don't expect to have a really cut-rate vacation because you have to figure in the cost of food and airfare. It's going to be cheaper in most cases to fly into Barbados (more and somewhat cheaper flights). St. Lucia would be next.

My husband and I returned from Caribbean a week ago. We were on EasyCruiseOne. It was, indeed, very different experience from the other cruise ships - and I've been to some.
The pluses are:
1. The median age of passengers is 32 - not partying college kids anymore, and not a nursing-home type either. Pretty energetic mix of American, British and Canadian young professionals enjoying their break from work/grad schools.
2. No kids! Isn't it wonderful?
3. Since the ship was docking in port around 10 am, and leaving around 11 pm, there was plenty of time to explore each island and go to different activities it has to offer. We actually did not have a single meal aboard - each morning we hit produce markets for our breakfast (pennies if you haggle), local street vendors or cafes for lunch (a couple of dollars for the two of us), and a nice restaurant locals have recommended for dinner (sky is the limit - expect American prices).
Things to be aware of:
1. Get ready for really Spartan environment. Storage space is (unreasonably) scarce. What helped us, were a few dry-cleaner hangers I took with me and left on the ship - there are some hangers available already, but it is definitely was not enough considering that there was ony one shelf. Also, I packed along that thing to hang on your closet door with pockets for shoes - I filled them with all kinds of cosmetic/personal hygiene necessities - that was great, because there is no shelf in the bathroom. There was no place to dry wet swimsuits and beach towels - I managed to make a clothesline from a piece of clothing, but it is wise to bring some rope or string.
Overall, the cabins suffer from poor design - no storage space, even though space allows for it; no door in the shower cabin, which means the rest of the bathroom gets wet; bad drainage in the shower and the rest of the bathroom.
2. Don't take excursions offered by the cruise. You can do the same thing (or better) much cheaper, and more interestingly, especially if you find companion to join you. This is true for any cruise line.
Overall, the experience was fun. We will certainly travel with EasyCruise again!

olondore, it's so great to Finally find someone who took the EasyCruise. A couple more questions:
How much did you pay actually, and did you spring for maid/linen service? I understand that if you don't book way ahead, the $30 price goes way up - almost to the price of a regular cruiseline. Did you find this to be the case?
How many nights did you book? Were most folks there for a week or just a couple nights?
I am surprised you say that you docked 10 AM til 11 PM. Everything I've read said that EasyCruise arrives in the afternoon and departs ports like 3 AM, so as to offer nightlife onshore for passengers. Maybe this was just for Europe itinerary?
Glad you enjoyed it! What islands did you visit, was the boat full?

Hi Joan,
We spent one week on the cruise, as the majority of the passengers did.
We got really great promotional deal - it was worth every penny. Travelzoo currently has very good deal also - $10 a night, check it out.
We used maid service only once in the middle of the cruise - they had a special of 2.95 pounds that day. That was enough - we can make our beds, and don't need sheets changed daily.
The docking times used in the website were probably true in European itinerary. In fact, there is absolutely nothing to do on the islands after 10 pm. Early arrival is good for those who want to see something or participate in some activities - the sun goes down early, 5:30-6 pm.
