Airport transfers to Paradise Island resort
What is the most economical mode to get from the airport to Atlantis resort? I have heard taxi fare is high, are there any cheaper shuttles?
Thanks in advance!

If you got your ticket through a T/A, they should be able to get you a travel voucher for shuttle service. Otherwise, taxi is the only other mode of transportation. They are really not that high, should cost about $30 for 2 people.

Thanks for your responses, although the news was not good! If there are shuttles for T/A voucher-holders, are there no shuttles for the rest of us? (I booked myself, timeshare at Harborside-next to Atlantis, and Orbitz for air).
Are there any timeshare company "barkers" at the airport who will offer taxi or other incentives to view their resort??

No shuttles available for non-voucher holders. Besides, you are paying extra for the vouchers anyway, they are not free, and add up to close to a cab ride, plus you're packed in like sardines, and make stops at all the hotels along the way. Better to spend a few xtra bucks and take a cab, they are plentiful.
No hawkers at the airport, but plenty downtown.

As the original poster I want to share what we found while in Nassau area:
The taxi driver we used also has a family tour business. We hired him for a tour of the island, the places partly chosen by us and partly recommended by him. Through no fault of his, some of our choices (Nassau Botanical Gardens, Bacardi factory) were closed that day, perhaps if you arrange in advance this won't happen. His charge was very reasonable to us, $25pp (we were 4) and he spent the entire afternoon with us.
We were very impressed with this young man, he has a distinct plan for his life, was very reliable and extremely enjoyable to be around. We saw the different Forts, the Water Tower, Queen's Staircase, a Palm Tree Arboretum and had each of the areas and historical buildings described & shown to us. (We had already toured the downtown Nassau area on our own). It was great to be shown around by someone who knows where he is going. We recommend anyone wanting to arrange airport transfers or tours in advance to email him. He also does nightclub tours, for those interested in the nightlife around Nassau!
His email is [email protected] or [email protected]

Becky; make sure you don't jump into the first taxi that comes along. The Bahamas have a real problem with the burgeoning Haitian population, and many have started private taxi services that aren't regulated. You may be charged an outrageous price to get to P.I. if you chose the wrong one. The airport is about 14 miles outside of Nassau, and P.I. is 3 miles further on. There is also a Paradise Island Airport, which is very close to P.I., but I'm assuming you'll land at the Nassau Airport. The regulated taxi services control transportation from the airport, and no jitney buses or other public bus transport is allowed into the airport. Of course, you could rent a car at the airport, if you plan on renting one, and that would save money, rather than paying for a taxi to P.I., and then renting a car. The regulated taxi's are metered, but some are not. Peek into the dashboard, and if there's no meter, get a verbal price agreement quickly before a young boy loads your luggage into the trunk. If you must negotiate, follow the government fares already set up: last year it was $25 to P.I., but make sure you pay the bridge fee, out of courtesy to your driver (was only $3). If you have two passengers, it's a flat fee, but for 3 or more they charge about $3 per passenger; NOT $25 a piece!!! It is illegal to charge all passengers the full fare. In the city of Nassau, taxi's charge about $25 per hour for a tour, and to get around, about $2 for the 1st. quarter mile and 35 cents for each quarter mile after that. Follow these guidelines and you'll be OK. Just some survival skills to help you out. Robert

Becky; I don't mean $3 per person to cross the P.I. Bridge, I meant $3 per person, beginning with the 3rd passenger on up, on top of the flat base rate of $25 to go from the Nassau Airport to P.I. So, if you and 3 others go to P.I. from Nassau Airport, it should be roughly a grand total of $25 + $3(third passenger) + $3 (fourth passenger) + $3 (P.I. Bridge toll)= $34 for the four of you to be taxied to P.I. Hope this helps. Robert

Becky,
It's been some time since you posted your message, and I'm not sure if my response is timely, or even necessary. But I agree with the previous post. Take a taxi. My family and I (5 in total) own a timeshare at Harborside at the Atlantis, and we have been making our annual visits since they opened. I too did my best to find a more economical method of transport to PI, and have reserved myself to the fact that the taxi is it. Also, there are soooo many taxis when you exit customs that I've never had to wait more than a few minutes, and that was only because it took that long to load other parties. Enjoy!!
