What can we do in Phuket Town before catching the ferry?

We have booked 10 nights at the Holiday Inn Phi Phi Island for the end of June. We arrive in Phuket at 9.35am and will be catching the 1.30pm ferry. We have arranged for a transfer from the airport.

Keeping in mind that we will have our luggage with us, I would appreciate some suggestions to fill in an hour or two. Does anyone know if there are secure luggage lockers at the ferry terminal? I have googled it but couldn't find info regarding this. Maybe we could find somewhere to go for a nice lunch? Sightseeing, shopping?

Many thanks.

If you are arriving on a dmestic flight think perhaps 10.00 to get your baggare, into Phuket town around 11. If you are arriving on an International direct flight it would a great deal longer.
Guessing you are a domestic you have only a couple of hours in Phuket town area, you could go for lunch but baggage can always be a headache.

My tip would be to take a taxi to the Rainbow Spa, just go for the simple basic massage ( B 500 ) but this means you can dump your luggage, use the bathroom, take a shower, so in all plus a massage not a bad way to spend perhaps 1.5 hours and then going to the pier. Make sure they arrnage a taxi for you when you arrive at the spa, should you choose this option.

Perhaps grab something light to eat nearby, really a place where you can dump the baggage, get a shower/use the washroom to kill time.

The other thing is to go to a 'hotel' for lunch, because if you do that you can tell the porter you are having lunch and aks him to keep yopur baggage, use the washrooms, relax, use internet etc, and you are not paying anything except for your lunch. Easy and cheap was to get your baggage taken care of ( do tip the porter ), use the washrooms, get lunch, and pop outside if needed. Plus getting a taxi to the pier.

Metropole Hotel does a buffet lunch, used to be about B 180.

Royal Phuket hotel has a good cafe with snacks, sandwiches etc.

Thinking again, in summary :
If you need shower facilities head to the spa.
If not head to the Metropole or Royale, with a beaming smile leave baggage with porter and use the facilities and as a base.

Hi James,

We are going from Perth via Singapore so I was guessing around 2 hours but sounds like you think it will be more than that.
Thanks, those are great suggestions, I shall run them by the gang. Hadn't even thought of a massage, but I will check out those hotels too.

Thank you again, James you have been very helpful as usual.

You must be on the Sik Air MI 752 / SQ 5752 ! ( A regular flight of mine for many years ).
There is a Thai flight from BKK arrives around 0920, if that is packed with international passengers the queue can be very long indeed, if not many then not so bad.

Now this is important - when you check-in at Perth ask for rows 6 or 7 on the Silk Air SIN-HKT(Phuket) sectors, use your charm. Those are the first rows in Economy.
Silk Air give you Thai landing cards, fill them out onboard.
Once you deplane ( by airbridge ) don't hang about, head along and down the escalator into Immigration hall and head for the shortest line. You will be out anything from 30 to 40 minutes before those from the back on the plane !
Whoever in your goup has the most charm let them lead at check-in in Perth and try and get those rows, or at least furthest forward.
If by bad luck some long-haul charter arrives before your flight and you don't get out until a lot later then you may decide just to head to the pier.

I would decide once you are through at Phuket, get your driver to take you to one of those hotels or if you feel like a shower and change then the Spa. We don't know how many in your group but as long as a couple of you have a spa the others can wander if they want.

That sure is excellent info about rows 6 & 7, we will give it a go. I will send in Mr. Charm then use the other 3 of us for back up, they won't stand a chance! Haven't used Silk Air for a few years but wondering if they have internet check-in, I will have to look that up.

Yes, I think we shall make a final decision when we get there and see what time we have but it is good to be armed with some choices. The Royal Phuket looks nice, they have a cafe on the 19th floor with nice views over the island.

Many many thanks James.

If you are not already a member of KrisFlyer ( Singapore Airlines ) then sign-up, it's free ( unless anything has changed ) and make sure you have those memberhsip numbers in, depending on your fare basis you may or may not get mileage but never hurts to be a member.
