Nepal is republic with multi party system. It consists president and prime Minister...Head of the state is president....
consider the source of this article--the ny times
The situation in Nepal is very sad. When we were there in 2008, a number of people talked about yearning for the old "good" king - the one assassinated (along with the rest of the royal family) back in 2001. That was seen as a time of stability, even though the Maoists were active in the countryside then.
Maoists have been active in the countryside of Nepal for many many years. Hope their influence is not increasing.
Nepal's king instituted a form of democracy. The people do love their king in Nepal. Hope things settle down there....it's touchy situation with communist China just across the border fomenting trouble in Nepal.
On a different subject, look what China did and continues to do to the people and monks of Tibet.
Indeed, China has just closed its borders to foreign visitors to Tibet following the self-immolation of two monks. Anyone with plans to visit should check the situation
