Luggage storage or early check-in at Changi airport?

Hi! We are passing through Singapore on our way to Bali and have 6 1/2 hours on the ground. We want to maximize our time in the city and minimize our time spent with details at the airport. Our flights are not connecting, so we will need to deal with our luggage... Our first flight lands at 12:05pm and our next flight is with JetStar at 6:35pm. Does anybody know if JetStar will check us(and our luggage) in 6 hours before our flight? Are we better off storing our luggage at the airport and checking in when we get back? Again, we are kind of going for whatever is fastest here so we get to see at least a bit of Singapore. Thanks!

There is luggage storage at Changi airport. See http://www.changiairport.com/at-chan...ggage-services. Jet Star departs from Terminal 1, so you may want to use the luggage storage facilities there to save some time.

However, if you are flying the whole way on Jet Star, your bags will be transferred between your flights. If not, Jet Star has baggage transfer agreements with many airlines, see http://www.jetstar.com/sg/en/plannin...ht-connections for the list. If your originating airline in Vietnam is one of these, then your bags will be transferred automatically when you get to Singapore. (Even though your 2 flights are on different airlines, most airlines have baggage-transfer agreements in which they agree to transfer bags. This is not related to code share. As your fights are less than 24 hours apart, they are considered connecting flights, and you should qualify for this transfer assuming you are on the Jet Star list of airiness approved for transfer. )

If your bags can’t be checked all the way through, then you have other options. Jet Star allows web check-in any time starting 2 days before a flight, so you could check in on-line when you are still in Vietnam. Otherwise, when you land at Changi, after you go through Immigration and collect your bags, just go to the Jet Star check-in counter in Terminal 1 and check-in. (I can’t tell from the Changi website whether the counters will be open earlier than 2 hours before your flight, but as Jet Star has many fights from Singapore every day, including half a dozen which depart between 12 – 3 pm, I believe you should find them open when you land.)

Just bear in mind that 6.5 hours is not a whole lot of time. If you have to deal with storing luggage and/or checking in for your Jet Star flight, this will eat into time as well. You then need to leave about 30 minutes each way to get to and from the airport, and time for exit Immigration and security. I would plan to be back at the airport an hour before your flight, a bit more if you have to collect bags from storage and check them in. So you may end up with only about 4 hours in Singapore.

See the website for Changi airport for all the info you need on transport to and from at http://www.changiairport.com

Thanks for all of the info! Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to have to pick up our bags and re-check them, but maybe I'll give JetStar a call and see if they will take them at around 1 for a 6:30 flight so we don't have to take the time to get them in and out of storage!
