India, Bangalore
We are a couple in the mid-sixties. Traveling to India for a second time in the month of January 2011. This time we wanted to go South to Bangalore. We would like to get information on some low budget clean hotels and restaurants, close to amenities. In our travels to Asia we have stayed in hotels with pick-up from the airport to the hotel. Is it possible to get something from one of the hotels in Bangalore? We are open to suggestions and comments they are welcomed! Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Rhkkmk is right. The airport is far out of the city center. When i was there in Dec 2008, no hotels provided pick up service, instead recommending an expensive taxi to/from the airport. There are public busses at BLR that will get youinto various parts of the city.
The airport is ony a couple yrs old, so be sure in your research that you ar reding about the new one, not the previous one.
For "low budget"--please give a specific INR or $ amount. My low budget may not be yours, so before giving recommendations, I'd want to know more about your exact requirements.
May I ask why Bangalore? For many, modern day it is a transit point now, or a business /IT destnation, but not a sightseeing destination in and of itself. That may be why you've had no response to your initial enquiry.
In general, if searching for low budget, and/or a large number of detailed anawers, I recommend Indiamike.com,, a fantastic and edetailed source of info. Use the search function there for "Bangalore hotels" "Bangalore restaurants" etc
Good luck!!!

Agree, why Bangalore? In that area I would (and did) pick Mysore as more interesting, and likely also cheaper as Bangalore has a lot of business visitors. If you really mean low budget take a look at Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. You could also see whether Ginger has a hotel there. And try travelguru.com and cleartrip.com and agoda.com.

Hi all: Thanks for all your replies to my post!
CaliNurse and thursdaysd: I've chosen Bangalore to see some parts in the South. We will be traveling to the North on our own buses/trains and end up in Delhi to come back home from there. I would say low rates hotels somewhere in between $Canadian currency 20 to 35. Q: what INR means? We also are considering to stay a night or two in BLR and from there go to Mysore.
Thanks again

INR = Indian rupees, $30 Canadian = 1,325 INR right now
For that budget you should definitely be looking at Lonely Planet and Rough Guide - likely at their low end listings. You might also want to post on LP's thorntree - many posters on Fodors sleep a bit more upmarket.

..or as written earlier, check Indiamike.com. You simply wont find recommendations for a specific hotel in that price range on Fodors forum, but you will on Indiamike. Look for IM's hotel section, or search "Bangalore hotels"

You could stay at Hotel Brindavan or Hotel Ajanta. Both are budget hotels located in the central business district and close to key attractions.
Cab from airport to these hotels are easy to find by in the airport. Avoid touts and just follow signboard at Bangalore Airport for Prepaid taxi. A meru cab (metered cab) will cost $8 from Airport to MG Road
