Does anyone know how long the flight is from NY to Bali? Also, What is the best way to get to Phuket from NY? Any recommendations on airlines? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

from nyc to bkk the best flight is the thai air non stop....its schedule may be changing to check with them...

northwest, united, ana, japan, korean, eva, air canada and others all will take you to bkk...

from bkk you can take thai air or any number of the discount airlines to phuket...

you could consider flying singapore air through singapore and then to phuket and the same for malaysia air (i think they fly to phuket) through K/L malaysia...

bali has no direct flights from usa that i know of....

you can fly to singapore, k/l or bangkok and then transfer...

thai air has one daily flt to bali from bkk....it takes about 4-5 hours as i remember...

Bob's right, no direct flights to Bali from NY. My favorite Asian airline from NY is Singapore Air. To Bali you have two choices: JFK via Germany or Newark non-stop to Singapore but the lowest price seats are their exec economy. You switch in Singapore to go to Bali on both. If you want to do both BKK and Bali, you're probably going to have to use Singapore as a hub. I tried routing it every which way this winter and it does get expensive, or you're using one of the local budget carriers and those start to have weight restrictions on baggage, etc.
You could book their flight to Bali with an open jaw in Singapore, do your BKK trip, then back to Sing to fly home. We did a stopover (2 nights) in Sing on our way back this year and it definitely helped with what would have been insane culture shock if we'd come back directly from Bali. BKK would provide the same "cushion" I think.

I like Sing Air as they have the most inflight entertainment options -- over 20 movies, tv, games, language learning programs, music and all in coach.

I just did a huge trip report on Bali if you want any ideas about what to do, drivers, etc.

If Bangkok and Bali are your two destinations (it's about a four hour flight from Bangkok to Bali), it's most convenient to use Thai Air. You can fly non-stop from New York to Bangkok on Thai, then fly on to Bali on Thai. They may well give you a free stop over, which would mean you'd be buying a roundtip ticket to Bali (stopping each way in Bangkok) and spending time in Bangkok on one of the stops.

I agree the best route from NYC to Bali is the SQ nonstop Newark to Singapore then a connection on to Denpasar. The whole trip is about 24 hours: you can't do better than that in time. I also think SQ offers the best service of any of the carriers flying in Asia, especially when comparing economy class.
