Bangkok vs Hong Kong

Hello everyone,
My husband and I are traveling to Bangkok and Hong Kong in July. We will have a total of 6 days to experience both starting in Bangkok. One of those days will be travel from Bangkok to Hong Kong. I wanted your opinion on if I would get more out of my trip by staying in Bangkok for 3 full days and Hong Kong for 2 full days or Bangkok for 2 and Hong Kong for 3. I wish I could have more time in both but my flight to Bangkok and out of Hong Kong are already confirmed. The only thing I can change is my flight between Bangkok and Hong Kong.

You would get more out of your trip if you chose just one location. Six days is not enough to experience one of those places let alone two. That said, two days is so little time, I'd say that it doesn't matter which city gets two days and which one gets three as you'll barely scrape the surface of either one.

I agree with Kathie but ,as you have definite bookings into Bangkok and out of Hong Kong it is not an issue if you can't change that.Hong Kong is my favourite city in the world so if it was me I would have the extra day there.
However there is so much to do in Bangkok too that you could easilly fill three days there as well. Hong Kong will be more expensive than Bangkok so that may be a consideration. I guess you will have to work out which city has the most places of interest for you. Maybe not much help but that's my input. Enjoy whichever you settle on!

i agree with kathie....you will just get settled and it will be time to move....i suggest in bkk that you hire a driver so as not to waste time and a tour person..
there are several that are well liked on this forum...
i would give more time to bkk because of the jet lague which will knock one day out of your touring quite honestly...
i would even consider doing 4 days in bkk and only two in HK....don't get me wrong i love HK, but other wise this is almost just a wasted trip...
you will not see or experience much in either place....with the 4 days up front or you could do it the other way around you would at least get some good experiences....
if you told us what you intend to do then maybe we could give better advice:
shopping, eating, sightseeing, etc....what is you interest??

Couple more things. In both cities airport-city transfers will take you 1 hour one way point to point (in HK you can take the train which is 22 mins plus a 7 min wait, then a taxi to your hotel hence 1 hour point to point). So, you will spend time commuting. Weather wise neither city is at its best in July but Bangkok has a slight edge coz it is rainy season in HK. Much as I love HK your trip will be washed out (!) if it rains all 3 days you are here.

because bkk 's sites are more spread out. HK is a compact city and you can easlly get to most sites via the subway.

in your case do try to use a privet guide or full/half day city bus tour to get the most out of your trip.

In a perfect world everyone would be able to spend weeks in one location for leisure travel. but the reality is that any leisure travel is already a luxury to begin with, based on money and/or TIME.

Thank you for the replies. I think we will stay longer in BKK since it is more spread out and less expensive. I do wish that I had at least a month to explore but I'll take what I can. I'm very excited since this will be my first trip to Asia...I will probably read other posts in this forum to determine what sites we must see in each city while we are there. Again, thank you for your replies.

as a jump start may i suggest the following must sees in bkk:
grand palace
jim thompson house (good place to eat lunch too and there is a nice JT shop there as well)
wat arun
wat pho
take a klong tour on a long tail boat one afternoon (one poster said moring ones were not good becuase there was not enough activity along the klongs)
