Murchison Falls Delta Boat Trip??

We have been told that there is also a private boat that you can hire to take you down the delta. It is about a five hour boat trip. Has anyone taken this trip and how much should it cost?

We did not hire the private boat. The public boat was not all that crowded. I recall the trip was a couple of hours and very enjoyable.

Murchison is one of our favorite parks in Africa. You might consider driving to the top of the falls, walking down, and then have the boat meet you for the journey downstream.

That is what we plan for our next visit.

AlwaysOnTheRoad,

Do you think a 3 night stay at Murchison Falls is good? How did you spend your days at Murch Falls?

We were at Murchison for three nights and felt that was the right amount of time.

In the morning on one day we did the boat trip to the foot of the falls. On another day we crossed the river and went to the top of the falls. Both were very worthwhile. As I noted earlier I would consider hiking down from the falls if that is your kind of thing.

On another day we drove down to the delta area and went out walking - with a park ranger - to spot the Shoebill Stork. We were very lucky to see several and get relatively close.

The rest of our time was spent in game drives in the park. This is a stunning park.

I have 3 nights as well in my current plan, so I'll stick to that. What time of year did you go, Always?

I even asked Volcanoes Safaris if they think another night at Murchison would be a good idea and I gave them about 4 activities and areas in the park that would be of interest to me.

Their response was 3 nights is sufficient. I give them credit for not just trying to sell another night of business. So 3 it is.

I don't believe that there's a public boat for the delta trip, only for the trip to the falls. From what I understand, the delta is more of a birding trip. I plan to do both in September. I was quoted $200 for the private delta boat.
