Will be spending one night in Aman after arriving from a long flight...on the way to Petra the next day...Any suggestions of a nice, quiet boutique hotel with charm to get us started?

Are you sure you want to stay in Amman? The airport is well south of Amman - you'd be a lot closer to Madaba, which has some good mosaics besides the map that everyone goes to see.

no...not convinced I want to stay in Amman...will check out your suggestion...any ideas of places to stay there?

I stayed here: http://www.mariamhotel.com/ - friendly but it doesn't have AC. More a backpacker place. I noticed a nice-looking new hotel in the middle of town, but I don't remember the name - maybe there's a Madaba tourist info site?
