Hotel Ali and Sahara Tours Question

Hello,

I was gona go to Marrakech in early september and read that Hotel Ali is a good place to stay for backpackers (from lonely planet) i found that they have tours to the sahara also, for 2 days 1 night, has anyone done this tour or any other tours from Hotel Ali? What did you think of the tour or stay with Hotel Ali.

The price quoted online is quite high, i believe around 100 euros for a solo person, i probably will want to latch on to another group to bring it down to 60 euros a person.

but anyways, did you find other short few day tours to the sahara also and how much did they go for? sory...its just that im a super low budget...but thanks!

We used Hotel Ali to make hotel arrangements, hire a car and driver, and do an overnight in the Sahara. No complaints, everything was efficient, with one exception. I picked out several hotels, and left the choice up to Hotel Ali for a few others. Hotel Ali picked some bland, "tourist standard" hotels, rather than more welcoming guest houses. I suggest making your own hotel selections.

We spent only one night in the Sahara itself, which was plenty (it was late December and very cold). The camels left in the evening, we got to the campsite about 90 minutes later, well after dark, had dinner over a campfire, then left in the morning. We also spent a night in Ourazazate (spelling?) and a night along one of the gorges. Both of these nights were in hotels/guesthouses.

hi ben, thanks for your very valuable info. im leaning toward the 2day tour myself, but instead of Merzouga (included in 3 day tour) for an overnight, the 2 day tour is overnite in Zagora. do u think this is significantly "not as good" as merzouga? thanks!

I'm not sure about Zagora. Out of Mergouza, we definitely got the
Saharan desert feel.

I posted something no your other post, but I'll reiterate briefly here. I did a trip to Zagora when I went to Morocco, and you definitely do not get the "desert" feel there. You just visit a few dunes that are about an hour south of Zagora. The desert itself is really another 2 or 3 hours away.
