Suggestions on where to Stay in Kurashiki

Looking for a place for my husband & I to stay for 2 nights in Kurashiki. I had hoped to stay at a ryokan, but the one I found was ~$700 a night which is a bit pricey for us. A largish double around $250 a night would be great. Any suggestions?

I have no idea what the current price range is, but I was satisfied with my stay at the Kurashiki Kokusai Hotel, which still gets decent reviews. But its been a long while since I was there.

Hi. We just returned from our three week trip and enjoyed our one night stay at the Dormy Inn Kurashiki. It’s perfectly located right across the street to the entrance of the historical district It’s a modest hotel with medium sized rooms, very clean and comfortable. There’s a bath on the top floor and complementary ramen is served at 9pm. I’d stay there again.

Have you checked on Agoda.com? I saw this one at $281/night for 2 people, including dinner and breakfast. Ryori Ryokan Tsurugata Hotel (
sorry for the long URLs. I was having problems with the Japanese website)

Thanks, kja & efarr for the suggestions. I'm hoping for a ryokan, but will keep your suggestions in mind.
lcuy - I couldnt book thru Agoda or the other booking sites for our dates, but Japanese Guest Houses will be able to book it for me.
