I just got my itenary from Ahmed. These are the hotels he's reccomended. Have any of you stayed there & were you happy with the accomodations.
1-Marriott Royal Palace
2-Movenpick-Aswan
3-Seti Abu Simbel Hotel
4-Sonesta Moon Goddess for Nile Cruise
5-Fairmont Heliopolis Hotel-because we are flying to Jordan the next day
6-Marriott Petra Hotel
7-Mariott Hotel Sea Sea
8-Helnan Palestine Hotel in Alexandria
We are early in the planning so if anyone really hates one of these hotel and has a better idea I'm game.
I had really wanted Mena House with a view but since we get in late he advised against it. I had also wanted Oberie Phile for the Nile Cruise

Stayed in the Movenpick in Aswan (Elephantine Island, right?) - and loved it.

We stayed at a JW Marriott in Petra - not sure if that's the same as yours but if so it was lovely also. It's not right at the entrance to the site if that matters to you; you have to be driven there.

We stayed at the Movenpick in Aswan and it was great. The location is perfect and the boat service between the hotel and Aswan is very quick and effective. The pool is great and has magnificent views of the Nile river and Aswan.
We also stayed at the Seti Abu Simbel. I guess it's the best hotel in Abu Simbel, but its quality is not as good as the other you mention. It looks old and the rooms are badly cared. The swimming pool is great and the restaurants are below average. But I think it's your best option there, so just keep in mind that it will not have the same quality as the others and enjoy your stay. Abu really deserves the effort.

Your #1 The Cairo Marriott is wonderful. The best hotel in Cairo for location. You should love it.

The #5 Fairmont is fine. The new part is new. The old part is an old dowdy Sheraton, but even that should be OK for one night before flying out. It is not well located for going anywhere outside the hotel, so hopefully you will find a restaurant in it you like for dinner and then jet out the next day.

I forgot to mention the Helnan Palestinian in Alex. Nice location again. The rooms are great. The hotel lacks ammenities that I wanted, but stay busy outside the hotel and if you are there and bored, go walk around Montaza Gardens out near the sea. I could live there happily.

we were on the moon goddess in december and thought it was a lovely experience. the tours were in groups of about 15, so very manageable. the rooms were nice, and each had a balcony. dinners were ok, but lunches and breakfasts were great. there was a middle eastern lunch on the top deck one day, a bbq, that was great. we did not do any of the night activities (our kids were not interested) you will be very happy with the moon goddess.

WAs your Marriott Sea Sea meaning the Dead Sea? If so, it was wonderful.

If you are cruising to Luxor, why not just fly to Cairo and keep on going to Amman? We did and it was so much easier-less airport and baggage drills.
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Petra which is the second closest hotel to the entrance of Petra.It was nice also.

duty free-Thats a good question-we are going from Luxor to Heraghada to a timeshare for a week-so the flight would be Heraghada-Cairo-Amman. Also that day is our anniversary & I mentioned this to Ahmed-I'd just be looking at airports. But it is a thought
Yes the Marriott Sea was Dead Sea. He has us there 2 night. I just signed up for Marriotts points since he has us staying at Marriotts for 6 nights of our holiday. Thanks Chris
