How about visiting/talking with a travel agent? You have to start somewhere.

Six days to do all of that would be pushing it. We did a similar trip in 8 days this past March. Our kids were 14 and 11. We did 3 nights Marakkech (arrived really late the first night, so really two days in Marakkech), then one night in Ouazarzate, one night in the desert, one night in Merzouga and two nights in Fez.

We booked our trip with Blue Men of Morocco (www.bluemenofmorocco.com) and were extremely pleased. Elena, who owns it, is an American now living in Spain. She was married to a Moroccan. She was extremely helpful in helping me plan. It was just the four of us, and our driver Zaid, who was excellent - we loved him!!

If you really only have 6 days, you might want to consider leaving out Fez (although it think it is wonderful), so if you can add another day or two that would be best. They will all find the souks and the desert fascinating!!

Is it my imagination or is this exact same post from jgg pasted into every thread? Sorry new hear - expected, wanted and hoped for a little more variety of suggestion to explore and choose from - or does every use the same 3 or 4 outfits when they visit Mrcco?

It is not the exact same post since I write them seperately each time. We did go to Morocco and had a great experience with our guide. When people ask about recommendations, I give it, as that is what these forums are for. That is exactly how I found Blue Men when I was looking for a tour guide.

My posting certainly doesn't stop anyone else from posting their experience as well. In case you haven't noticed the Morocco board on fodors isn't that busy (a shame really).

If you head to the tripadvisor forum you will find a few more people, though people do still tend to recommend the same guides, but a bit more variety than here. Also, watch out for the touts - they are much more annoying than an average person who really did visit the country/city and wants to tell about their experience!

There are only a few reliable outfits to deal with when it comes to Morocco. I talked to Blue men as well, but they were waaay to expensive for my taste.

I always recommend Les Nomades because we had an extraordinary experience with them. Here is here website

and more from our blog ( where we have many pictures and details about our tour of Morocco...just click on the archives for more):

Johnsakura who is from Portugal and has done extensive world travel & spent much time in Morocco and now is living in Merzouga has tons of info on Morocco.

It is hard to get information about Morocco on the web ( not just fodors) which is sad because it is a fantastic destination.

ftmagellan.
6 days is not very long in Morocco as most of the sites are quite spread out and not connected well by public transport. Fez is actually a much more authentic and interesting city than Marakech. I would not book too long in Marakech.

Hopefully you are coming from UK, so will not have to deal with jet lag issues. You can easily book this yourself. Go to Sawdays or iescape to book some good riads ( I list some on my blog as well).

It is a ten hour ride through the high atlas mountains ( think hairpin curves and spectacular sites) to the Sahara Merzouga dunes. Most drive a rent a car or hire a grand taxi which can be done thru your hotel. Grand Taxi's crush 6 in, so you have to pay for the seat that you do not use. You can also take a bus or hire a more expensive car and driver ( also can be booked out of your hotel or thru your sahara people like Les Nomades).

I would suggest staying in the Land of a thousand Kasbah area near the world heritage site of ait ben haddou.

We stayed here, which was a fantastic place:

I would spend less time in Marrakech and more time in the desert. ....especially with only 6 days.

As I said before I do not think there is a better way to see the Sahara in a very special way than through Les Nomades. They are very, very special people and will take extremely good care of you. Alessandra is one of the most remarkable people I have met in my life.

She speaks 5 languages and understands western needs and what service is all about. She is a city girl who has traveled the world and worked at the top advertising agency in Brazil, who came to the Sahara, fell in love with a Berber and stayed.

She understands the perspective of a western tourist coming to the Sahara and gives the dream camel trek that she wanted to find when she first came. Many of the camel treks can be a disappointment and are like touristy, crowded, dirty camel junkets. NOT with Les Nomades....you will have the experience of your life from people who know and love the magic of the Sahara.

Have a great trip!
