Hello all,

I'm going to have a full day in Zion coming up in the beginning of April. My boyfriend and I are mid-20s, fit, and would love suggestions for hikes while we're there.

Angel's Landing is at the top of the list

If you have any recommendations for local eateries, that would be great too!

Love Angels Landing. If The Narrows aren't to high and there isn't a rain threat, it is just as good. You would want to rent shoes and probably wet-pants or dry-pants from Zion Adventure Company. I don't normally hike with a walking stick, but your really better off with them in The Narrows. Very very good hikes.

Emerald Pools and Canyon Overlook trail are both good hikes(not as good as the two mentioned above though).

Have a meal in Zion Lodge Dining Room-we really liked it. Eat lunch or at least an ice cream out under the big tree in front of the lodge. Lots of people do this each afternoon and its a different park experience.

We had a good meal at Whiptail Grill (really liked Spaghetti Squash Enchiladas). Now this is served under a gasoline canopy, but it is very good food. The little grocery store right at the entrance to the park is good for supplies and they have good breakfast burritos.

You might consider going Canyoneering with Zion Adventure Company as well.

Lots of deer and wild turkeys in Zion. We did see a California Condor near the top of Angels Landing.

Be doubly sure to check with rangers before going on The Narrows. The threat of flash flooding is far more a danger there than falling at Angels Landing, IMOP. Both are FANTASTIC hikes.

O, I see you name night sky. I think Zion and Bryce both have Night Sky things at night. The one at Bryce is great. I haven't done one at Zion, so not sure they have it or not.

Canyon Overlook at the east end of the tunnel is short with a big payoff.

Beyond that, toward the east entrance, is some rock art to see. The park service is very protective of this site since people can't resist touching it or vandalizing it.

My pleasure emalloy. I knew of the site but the NPS wouldn't tell me where it was. The photographer David West (his gallery is in Springdale) was kind enough to share the diresctions with us.

My opinion is that the NPS should let people know where the rock art site is if they ask...they were so obviously lying when I asked...they denied that it even existed. If someone knows about it and wants to find it then they aren't likely to be the vandalous type. If more people, especially kids, could see this site (which is fairly modest) then they may become interested in protecting rock art and ancient puebloan sites. No doubt it might jeapordize this particular site a bit but I think it is worth the risk considering the potential benefits.

BTW, I learned that the Edge of the Cedars Museum in Blanding has sold a few of my rock art recreations. Pretty good considering that they are in the middle if nowhere (or the middle of everything if you're a fan of Ancient Puebloan history) and that this is their slow season. There's not much money involved but I love to think about my art finding homes...is one in Germany by now (Germans are big fans of the Colorado Plateau)...did a local buy one? I love to think of my creations finding lives of their own and, perhaps, sparking conversations about something I find so fascinating.

I agree, peterboy, but sadly so many sites have been vandalized, some even recently. Respect for the art, the artist and the culture that produced it is lacking in some folks.

We'll still seek out some of the off the beaten path sites, but sadly can't hike long distances any more.
