Yo Fodors - please stop the annoying, rolling ads

I know you provide this great forum for free, and I know you need to make money.
BUT... the ads that roll over the text go too far! Stick with your banner ads. Thank you.

I don't see these ads. What software do you browse with? I use Firefox and block the popups. I don't know if the firewall I use plays a role or not.

Anybody else not see them?

Nope. Just see an ad at the right sidebar and one over the top of the page. Nothing annoying.

I've never had a problem with the pop ups many people complain about, but I DO have the rolling ads. They can be really annoying when you are typing and they get in your way.

I'm usually chasing them across the screen with my mouse trying to close them before they stop. It's sort of a cat and "mouse" game for me.

If I see "Goofy" on one more rolling ad, I will boycott Disney!

Check your anti-virus software: some programs allow you to block information from URLs that you specify. Many website ads are shown by the same servers, so if you add them to your blocked sites list, they won't show up on your screen.

It's a struggle between site owners and website viewers -- site owners often need the revenue produced by the ads, and viewers try their best to block the ads. So the site owners get much more aggressive to make sure their advertisements are being seen.

Ok, I'm taking off my webmaster hat now and putting it back in the corner.

First a map of the Middle East rolled out, now it is everywhere. I finally found "X" to zap Goofy, but they keep moving it. Have not found a way to reroll the map.

With Goofy I made it a game - try to zap Goofy before he disappears - but it does not take much to amuse me.

Yes, those rolling ads are a PAIN! Especially if you get 2 back-to-back...and I'm a Goofy fan!

I'm using Firefox. I do have Adblock extension installed, so just have to keep blocking them as they appear.

I use firefox and have never seen the Goofy ads or any of the other popups people talk about, but I'm on here for hours a day off and on. That rolling triangle thing HAS appeared on my screen a couple of times only in the past week. It must not be coming up much and unless you are on here an average of 8 hours a day, it is quite likely you'd never see it. Some days I hardly leave this site as I'm working at my desk and it never once appears.

I use both MSIE and Firefox. I have no anti-virus programs, no pop-up stopper programs and no firewall. I alwo have none of the problems with browsing Fodors website - I've seen NONE of the elephants, Goofy, Spiderman, or anything else.

Learn what the "hosts" file is and how to use it, and take control of your own browsing.
