Wow! What a Snowstorm!!

It's crazy that with the poor snow year we've had, now that it's April Mother Nature is cutting loose! All the snow at my house in Park City at 6500 ft. was gone and I was getting ready to do spring yard clean up. In the last week, we've had about 4 feet of snow just at my house and much more higher at the ski resorts. Alta & Snowbird had 33" of snow OVERNIGHT and it's still dumping. Winds are insane and there is some fog too. Yesterday we even had thunder and lightening and hail....

This morning I had my Jeep in 4x4 low just to get out of the driveway. I made it just a mile west on I-80 heading to work in SLC before visibility went to zero and I turned around and went home. First time in 8 YEARS that I haven't made it to work due to bad road conditions.

Brace yourselves CO and the plains states, it's coming your way! Powder skiers are in heaven! Epic conditions.

Right now, the forecast in Denver is only for 1-2" on the grass by tomorrow morning, so I don't think east of the Continental Divide has to worry. The high country, however, is slated for a foot or more. So spring skiers, rejoice!

Isn't it great? We've had a decent snow year here in WA but I had one of my best ski days all year on Sunday--there was 4 feet of new snow and it was genuinely cold, so it wasn't gloppy spring skiing. Have fun!

Snowbird and Alta have had over 7 ft of snow in the last 7 days. Interlodge was in effect all day Monday - meaning no noe can even go outside the buildings. Little Cottonwood Canyon was closed all day for avalanche control work. Big Cottonwood was closed Tuesday morning for the same. Made the Park City resorts very busy with all the powder hungry locals concentrated on the PC mountains.

I came home and had to shovel about 18". It's melting, but it's still there as of today at my house. Great spring skiing at reduced April rates if anyone wants to get out here! We're up to normal snowfall now.

Italy!!!!!!!!

(Actually, next weekend I'm going to Boise to visit my son and his wife, but that's not a "trip", just some good time with family.)

No Snowbird this year; we'll go to Yosemite instead.

But Italy is the main thing right now. Come on over to the Europe board and help me find a nice beach we can reach from Lucca. I was thinking of Elba but people tell me I'm crazy to do that as a day trip.

Oh yes enzian,

I knew you were going, but forgot when. I'm planning my trip to Sicily in September. Finally!

Hey Dayle,
Seems like the southwestern states are getting all of our snow! The northeast has been unseasonably warm - even getting up to the 80's and 90's recently!! Peter and I cannot wait to get back to Utah - hope to bring our good friends who have been wanting to come along with us for years. I'll skip the snow though...winter in northern NY is way too long for me. Give me those hot dry days in the desert anytime. Can't wait!! Sharon

Dayle,

Is there a lot of snow in eastern Utah too? We're planning to go to Dinosaur NP and Arches and Canyonlands at the end of the month. Hope we get to see everything on our list.

Thanks

emalloy,

The snow will be gone at your destinations by the end of April, don't worry. The nice thing will be the beautiful views of the La Sal Mtns from Arches Natl Park!

Sharoni, how lucky for your friends to have your and Peter as guides! I hope you ahve an awesome trip. When are you planning?

We haven't "officially" started planning yet but have talked about Sept 2011 - way too far off. The trip has been postponed a few times for a variety of reasons but we are all ready now! Haven't done much traveling in the past year or so and we are just aching to get away.
