Would you see Wicked a second time?

Husband and I have tickets for May. His 60th is in Sept. and I would like to celebrate with a show for the three daughters and us. I would love Spamalot and hubbie and one girl but I don't think the other two would really "get" Monty Python humor. I think Wicked would be a better choice for them but how about us seeing it twice in such a short time? Any thoughts?

I agree, Wicked wasn't that good.

First of all, I saw Spamalot and knew nothing about Monty Python but still laughed my head off. And two, my daughter and I saw Wicked last March and then again this March with a new cast - we loved it both times, but particularly the original with Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. Still, in our opinion, a gorgeous set and beautiful music. But I agree with Howard and think it would be great if he picked his own birthday show. Have fun.

It wouldn't recommend seeing it twice. ALmost everytime I saw a play I orginally loved, the 2nd time it didn't come close. Few shows I could repeat. I actually haven't seen WIcked but am very familiar with the music (which I really like) and have tickets to go with my family in June.

How old are the girls? As a family (with 2 teens), we've most recently seen Hairspray and Rent together (wicked is next). Each of us enjoyed those shows. My son is not really into musicals but he liked those 2 (he didn't like Fiddler at all). I took my daughter to Movin Out recently and she really liked that.

When there are so many shows to see, I would pick something you haven't seen. Or let your husband pick. As to the Monty Python humor, I saw Spamalot last week. Never saw the movies and didn't really like the TV shows. I LOVED Spamalot. Laughed the whole time and the audience was having so much fun. Hank Azira is amazing with all the parts he played, David Hyde Pierce was very funny (although I thought he started out slowly)and Sara Ramirez is becoming a Broadway star with her role. If you decide to see Spamalot, get your tickets now.

My daughter would probably see Wicked again but I'd rather see something new.

We thought Sara Ramirez to be very good - incredible humor and quite a good voice.

We saw La Cage on Friday night 3/25. Gary Beach did not do the show-we saw his understudy. Daniel Davis was very good but the men in the chorus stole the show. They are definitely beautiful women and hard to believe they are men when wearing some of their costumes. On Sunday 3/27, Davis was fired (?) after the show. There is still lots of controversy about that but as you may have heard Robert Goulet is taking over the role. Supposedly Davis and Beach didn't get along at all. So it will be interesting to see how ticket sales are once Goulet starts the role in mid April.

Let's see. The role calls for a guy who is a "has been former matinee idol golden-toned-voice singer" who on a drunken binge years ago got a woman pregnant. And they thought of Robert Goulet? Sounds like type casting made in heaven to me. I suspect he will be wonderful in the role -- especially since he doesn't need to act. Sorry if that sounds cruel, but I'm serious about thinking he'll be wonderful.

I'm curious. In the original production there were usually two real girls mixed with the "boy-girls". In the curtain call the boys whipped off their wigs revealing which ones were the "real" girls. Do they do that in this production or are they all males?

The difference this time is that, nlike in the original, the dancers take off their wigs after the opening number, so you know immediately the gender of each one! Are there any females? Hey, Patrick, see the show!

I intend to, Howard! LOL

Actually I remember during the original production missing half of what was going on. It had become the big game to try to figure out which chorus members were female and which were male, so like many others I spent most of the chorus numbers trying to study them individually. I think it's a good idea that they reveal it much earlier so that we can actually watch the show instead of gender guessing.

There are so many shows I haven't seen, that I can't bear to see a Broadway show twice.
