Woodfin Hotel: San Diego?
Can anyone speak to this hotel, pro or con? I'm interested particularly in whether it would be a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. I know that it has no good views and is on a trafficy street, but I'm thinking perhaps that rooms away from the highway might be quiet?
We have a wedding to attend in La Jolla at the end of July and this is where the family has acquired some fairly reasonable discount rates. I'd thought to stay the Torrey Pines Hilton so that we could be near that pleasant hiking and have the handsome views, but Woodfin is so much less expensive, we're thinking of perhaps doing that instead. But only if it's a quite pleasant place for 3 nights. Thanks for any recent details about the hotel.
(If we do the Woodfin, we'd probably be getting a 2-bedroom suite. If we stay with Torrey Pines Hilton, we'd be by ourselves in a regular room.)

I got curious and did a little checking. The Woodfin is one of a chain of hotels that specifically are located to appeal to corporate business travelers, with amenities to suit. See:

Of course, they also want leisure travelers, and say so. The Woodfin is located in the Sorrento Valley, in a high tech industrial area. The other hotels in the chain are similarly located. Here's the Woodfin web page.

Industrial areas like that become ghost towns after quitting time, so your "trafficy" street may become very quiet.

Thanks for the replies.
I'd never heard of the chain either, but I live on the east coast and I don't think that hotel group is represented here (or at least there are fewer). Being a 70-something, I've never become comfortable with the expedia/priceline kind of thing, so we just settle for whatever the best rate is that we can get old-fogey style. I guess the choice will simply come down to how impt it is to us to have handsome surroundings, nice trails to walk, that kind of thing. Hilton Torrey Pines looks pleasant enough in that respect, though I suspect it might be more noisy.
Hoping to hear from folks who may actually have stayed at Woodfin. And thanks again for the replies so far.

I doubt you are going to find anyone that has stayed there at Woodfin but now I where you are talking about and if its the Sorrento Mesa Valley corridor there are a couple of other business hotels in the area..its convient for LJ, Del Mar and off the 805 freeway.
I'm sure its fine..what kind of rate are they quoting you?
You should really try expedia..its not hard and you don't have to bid like priceline and you can see tons of pictures, get rates and then you can go direct to the hotel to see if they will match it..
Never had any problems with expedia but you know how you old fogey types are..

I looked at the website, let me just tell you that the photo of the "view of san diego" is not from that hotel.
Will you have a car? There's no trolley in Mira Mesa either. A bus might come by once an hour or two during the weekdays.
You're not actually far from places where you could walk or hike, you'd just need a car to get there. I think there might be an Indian Restuarant in the area.
