Winter in New York City
My friend and I are coming to the city for 2 nights and 3 days in January. we have always been there in the summer and have done a lot of walking, etc. We will be seeing billy elliot and lion king. We would like suggestions for other things to do. Thanks for your ideas.

Need hints as what you like to do? Interets, ages, budget, food likes and dislikes, what you do not want to see again.
And you would need two itineraries, one for good weather and one for wretched weather.

Agree - you need to tell us something about yourselves - and interests - for us to make useful recos.
The only thing sure is to be ready for cold weather and possibly snow (the highs next week will be in the low 30's).

Tell me more about brooklyn tours. we like things that are different. For instance, one time we did the immigrant museum, although I can't remember the name. Thought that was really neat. Any different museums. We have been to the Met and MOMA.

A couple of places I find really interesting:
Museum of Natural History/Planetarium
The New York Historical Society
Museum of the city of New York
Museumm of the Moving Image
Museo del Barrio
Cooper-Hewitt Design museum
But there are dozens of Museums - ranging from the Asia Society to the Museum of Sex.
Check out New York Magazine online for a complete list and info.

If there is lots of snow, check out Brighton Beach/Coney Island. Where else can you see people skiing, making snow men on the beach? You might even run into Russians swimming. There is a rather famous Russian woman who likes to go for a nude stroll and a swim on Coney Island in the Winter. She doesnt mind if people take shots of her. No, she aint young in her mid-fifties I could say.
Check out the Russian cafes out there.
BTW, by the time Summer comes, Astroland will be cleared out of all old rides, so check 'em out while you can.

Well, Coney Island in the winter is certainly different. It's about an hour from Manhattan by subway - and if it's cold the wind off the North Atlantic will take your breath away - so be sure you're totally muffled up - as in one of the LL Bean jackets good for 20 below.
