Williamsburg - dining question
We are going to Williamsburg for three days during the first half of Thanksgiving week. Would like to eat dinner at one of the colonial restaurants in Williamsburg one night. At that time of year do I need to make reservations before we get there? Also - is there one that is best? Any feedback is appreciated. Also any ideas on other dining/lunch places in the area. By the way - we are two adults - no kids. Thanks!

My favorite is King's Arm Tavern on Duke of Gloucester Street. They serve very good food (beef, poultry, game) as it was prepared in the 1700's in a colonial setting. They also have a storyteller who plays a musical instrument. This person has a title, but I can't remember what he was called and what he played. There's also Shield's Tavern and Chowning's Tavern. I think reservations are always recommended. There are also many restaurants located along Richmond Road such as Country Harvest Buffet, Fireside Chop House, a Japanese steakhouse, a couple of pancake places, and several Italian. I highly recommend a visit to one the taverns, especially King's Arm.

Definitely make a reservation ASAP. I second the vote for Kings Arms but each tavern has its own personality. I think you can see menus on the CW web site. Kings Arms has prime rib, game pie, peanut soup. Shields has more basic food like baked chicken, etc. Christiana Campbell's has more seafood. Chowning's has British pub fare. All have wandering musicians, costumed wait staff, and candlelight. Stay away from Richmond Rd restaurants. Best Mexican is Casa Maya on Bypass Rd. Good Italian at Sals by Victor near Books a Million or Giuseppe's near the bowling alley. For a nice meal try Cities Grill on Rt 5. The best places for lunch are the two CW golf clubhouses at the Golden Horseshoe and the Green Course.
