I bought tickets this morning for the revival of ?La Cage Aux Folles?. Opens in November, and Ticketmaster is selling tickets through May. I took a chance that it would still be open in early April and got seats in the exact center of the 12th row orchestra.

Looked at Ticketmaster's offerings for "Wicked", and the seats aren't as good for the same date -- row 24 if you want center orchestra). There would undoubtedly be a better seat selection for mid-week shows, however. (We go up to NYC on the weekend.)

You could wait until you get to New York and go to TKTS for 1/2 price tickets. The one in Seaport does not get really crowded and it opens at 11:00 a.m.

Can you expect decent seats at TKTS if you wait? It depends on the show! However, unless the show is doing poorly at the box office, the chances of great or even fairly good seats is not that great. Also, keep in mind that not all shows will be available there.

PS: Don't get me wrong. You might get good seats, but you can't be sure of it.

I have heard that Wicked is not available thru TKTS. However, on their official website, there is apparently a lottery each night for front row seats, $25 each with a two ticket limit. Go to:

Most Broadway musicals offer this lottery opportunity. Sure, you have a chance to see the show, but the front rows are not always the best location! Obviously, that's why they're only $25. Still, it gives you a chance to see a show that you might not otherwise be able to get tickets for.
As for discounts for Wicked, forget it for the immediate future. Discount tickets for the were only available early in its run when it wasn't a total sellout, as it is these days. Then, again, who knows about February, one of the slow periods for the theater?

I just purchased tickets for Wicked from ticketmaster for 2/27, Saturday night. The best available seats were on row k, left of center.

I wouldn't normally buy tix this far in advance, but I have heard such good things about this show that I took the leap early on.......

Buying tickets far in advance is the only way to get good seats for a hot show -- at least on the weekend -- unless you pay an outrageous amount to a "ticket broker".

TicketMaster has a service where they'll notify you by e-mail when the next batch of tickets for a show will become available. That way you can jump on-line and get an early stab at close-in seats in the center orchestra. At $100 a pop, it's depressing to have to settle for not-so-good sight lines.

Have an opportunity to purchase tickets for wicked in December, Thursday performance for MMEZ G seats 1-3. Looks to be aisle seats. Too far back?

That's the 3rd row from the back of the theater! But at least it's on the aisle, rather than against the wall.

The obvious answer is: If that's the best they have and you really want to see the show, buy the tickets. Considering that it's only two months away and the show is a big hit, be happy you could get tickets!

Thanks Howard for some comfort. This was our only night open and my only other choice was WAY back (I think row Y) in orchestra. I asked this question on another thread but maybe I can get some response here: I need to meet up with someone for an hour or so before my 3PM departure (from Manhattan not JFK) for coffee and cannoli. Since my luggage will be "resting" at Radio City Apartments, it would be nice to have a spot close by. Any suggestions?

I've seen lots of Broadway shows and Wicked is hands down my favorite! We sat in the third row of the mezz, which I feel is superior to way back in Orchestra. Either way, a small pair of binoculars is always a smart way to go!

Is my mind slipping or do I remember correctly that when Wicked first opened there were numerous posts here and quite a number of posters were only lukewarm about it and some didn't like it at all? Now that it has become an unqualified hit, it seems everyone wants to see it.

Wicked is WONDERFUL! I've seen it twice and loved it both times. The first time we sat in in the front orchestra and the second time it was the upper mezzanine. I'd book in advance to get up close seats for this one! You couldn't see a lot of the facial expressions when we were seated back farther and it took away from the show (in my opinion).

Little Women is also coming in December. Pacific Overtures (www.roundabouttheatre.org) will open in November. They both look like they will be good!
