Other than college and a year in Syracuse, NY, I've lived in Pittsburgh all my life. At this point, deep in middle age, I don't think we'll have the opportunity to leave, but who know? DH's job may be on its way out. so maybe we will get to live somewhere else.

CLAW123, if you are still following this thread, I think you may have made a less than optimal choice in Upper St Clair. Although the schools are good, there isn't much else going on there, and it is a pretty homogenous community. Come to the city! The schools stink, and taxes are high, but we urban pioneers are a friendlier lot.

Also, we have had some Pittsburgh GTGs. You should come to the next one, as we local Fodorites have bonded and have had some nice GTGs.

NH. Mainly for my job. But I grew up in Mass and love New England. Having four seasons is fabulous. We have great hiking, scenery, and beaches. I love it here. Plus, no income or sales tax!! Woo-hoo!!

Live free or die!

I have spent most of my life in Texas: Tyler, Houston, Nacogdoches, Marble Falls, and Galveston. After teaching for 7 years I decided to go back to school and am enjoying alot of freedom due to internet courses. I currently alternate between Tyler and Vail, CO.

It's nice to get the best of both. In Tyler, I spend alot of time with family and childhood friends. Tyler also offers the southern culture and cuisine I grew up loving. In Vail, carpe momentum - skiiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, free concerts, excellent meals, and golf. It is nice to be able to experience both.

Born in NJ, lived in FL (Orlando and Tampa) in the 80's (grad school and first job - loved FL), moved to Alexandria, VA in '89 (job transfer, but loved the DC area), then moved to Pittsburgh, PA in '96(new husband in grad school - hated Pittsburgh, but dealt with it cause I knew it would be temporary). Moved back to FL (Tampa) the minute he graduated in '98 - loved it! Then, unfortunately - moved back to Pittsburgh in '02 for DH's job. So here I am again the 'bugh and HATE IT WITH A PASSION! Can't wait to leave, although sadly, looks like that won't happen for quite a while. I compensate by traveling out of town any chance I get.

Where else can you wave to Paul Newman on a regular basis and have him wave back?

Sweet home Alabama. Born and raised. It is laid back. Beautiful. Good work. Not lots of tourists (where I live) but not far to drive to get to tourists destinations. People are friendly. Bible belt. I hope to never live anywhere else and all my family and my husband's family lives here.

Born and raised in L.A. My husband was transferred to San Diego for his job and we've been here for 15 years. I'm itching to move back to L.A. when we retire, but that won't be for several more years.

Greenfield, Wisconsin - a suburb of Milwaukee.
Love the state- it's really a pretty state.

But mostly it's being close to my big family. We lived in Appleton, Wisconsin for 3 years and at 2 hours away it was to far for me.
I was so glad when my husband was transfered back. I live 2 miles from my mom and brother, and 5 miles from my older sister. My younger sister lives across town, but it's about 5 minutes from where I work so I stop by almost every week.
My other two sisters live in Green Bay, WI (a two hour drive) and Jacksonville, FL. I don't know how she stands living so far away. Two of her kids live here. I wouldn't be able to handle it.
So far one son lives here. the second got a job in Schamburg, IL (only about a 1.5 hour trip - nmot too bad) and the youngest is still in college. i hope he doesn't end up too far away.

No IL, just south of Lk Geneva. Have a house on the Fox River. Love living on the water. Good job, great friends and super sweet guy are why I am here.

If any of the above do not last (friends will) it will be time to rent my house out and go for an adventure for a bit.
Would like warmer weather and sand.
