I'm trying to find a question I posted a few weeks ago. When I type in my screen name nothing recent comes up. Also, when I type in Chicago, which was the topic, it isn't there either, nor are any other recent posts about Chicago. Is there another way to search for an old post?

Click on your name and all the posts you've contributed to will come up on the left side. Sometimes you have to click two or three (or four!) times to get the most recent threads.

You can always click on your screen name after Author:
It brings up posts that you have started or replied to.

Thank you so much for your help. I was putting my screen name in the search box and it wasn't current that way.

As they said, clicking on your name is the best way.

And right now, it's the ONLY way, since the search database hasn't been updated since May. That's why you only got old posts when you searched for Chicago. The state-name keyword system is automatic, so if the thread was keyworded for Illinois, it would turn up that way.

The search tool blows.

There is a way to find a post through Google, go to "advance search" type in whatever you're looking for, choose fodors.com for domain (?) and good luck!

I hope somebody who knows better will correct me or provide more details.

Faina - You've got it exactly right. It's best to be quite specific if you're looking for a certain thread that way, as it's not as easy to browse through posts that way is it would be if you were searching here, but it can help in a pinch.

Lately, even when I click on my name,my most recent posts don't show up. That, in addition to the general search function being inoperative, makes this site a real pain. I just don't bother to log on a lot these days - it's the same old questions anyway, and the troll population seems to have exploded. So Fodors - GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER - or you'll lose a lot of your response from some good contributors.

I was advised to do a little trick: click on your name once next to "welcome" and the 2nd time click on your name on the left, next to the forum list.

The search function is not the greatest at these forums, but that is also the case at more sophisticated websites.

When all else fails, go to Google and type your search term plus "site:http://fodors.com/forums/"

I find that performing a "refresh" often picks up the newer postings. F5 in Internet Explorer or Firefox = refresh
