Who else is going to N.Y. this month?
We are going to N.Y. City in 12 days and I can't wait! It will be a nice "getaway" plus we're meeting our friends from the U.K. there.
I've cut and pasted lots of advice from different posts and would like to thank everyone for their advice.
We're going to wander through Central Park, see "Starry, Starry night", look for my grandfather's name on the Ellis Island Wall, have dinner in Little Italy, and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, etc., etc.
I'm just so excited and wondered who else is planning a trip to N.Y. in September?

I live in the area, but just wanted to wish you an enjoyable trip. Your timing is good, since its started to cool off from the 90 degree temperatures that we suffered with most of the summer. I was just in the city yesterday and it was so pleasant to walk around. You'll have a great time.

Weather warning....just because it was cooler in the 70s last week does not mean it will be in that temperature range next week or the week after. Could be in the 80s and 90s. You never know. So bring an umbrella and some layers to wear along with a light weight jacket/raincoat.

Hi Suzanne,
My grandfather Einar, his two brothers, aunt, uncle, and parents did pass through Ellis Island on July 10th, 1903 from Norway on the S.S. Germanic.
The Wall is for everyone and can also include immigrants from all periods. For a minimum gift of $100 your family's name can be registered. As I am very proud of my family for the adventurous and difficult trip they made to America I thought I would honor them by having their name placed on the Wall. (And so yes, I know that every immigrant's name is not on the Wall, but my family's name is and as had written, I will look for my grandfather's name.)
The money is used to help the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to maintain and preserve the statue of Liberty and Ellis Island for generations to come. A very good idea, don't you think?
I have done much research on my family and have been to Norway to visit the little house where my grandfather was born. I am very excited to see the wall, visit Ellis Island and see the Great Hall. I can only imagine how
frightening, scary, and exciting it must have been for not only my family but also the millions of immigrants who anxiously waited to see if they would be admitted to come into our country.
Thanks for your info though.

Just an FYI. Van Gogh's Starry Night is in a "temporary" location in Long Island City as the midtown Museum of Modern Art is being renovated.
I used to drop in to see it all the time when I worked on 55th Street. Worth the trek to Queens as I have heard good things about the temp-site but haven't had the opportunity to go yet.
Enjoy your trip.

Robbyn,
Oh, good. I just didn't want you to be disappointed, as my BF and I were...we had thought all people who passed thru the island had their names on the wall and could not find our ancestors! Have a good trip!
PS I recently went to MoMA Queens and saw "Starry Night". I was impressed with their collection, but it was rather small (took us just 45 minutes to go through the whole thing...about as long as it took us to get there from Brooklyn)
