Which Maui hotel: Maui Coast Hotel or Mana Kai Maui

We like to stay in Kihei or Wailea area and come down to 2 choices: Maui Coast Hotel or Mana Kai Maui. Would love to hear from anyone who stayed in either of these hotels. Thanks!

I have stayed at the Maui Coast at least a dozen times (I tag along with my husband on business trips.) There are very few rooms with an ocean view, the hotel is across the street from the beach and up a long driveway. There is a small pool with a snack bar and also there is a restaurant on the property. The rooms are pretty nice for the price, I like the slightly larger "alcove" rooms. The one bedroom unit is even better. Nice staff, clean rooms; the Maui Coast is not fancy but it is newish and well maintained.

Mana Kai Maui is oceanfront, a tad closer to Wailea than the Mauai Coast, it's a large building that is perpendicular to the beach. Even if you don't stay there, dinner at their Five Palms restaurant is a treat.

As you may know, the Mana Kai is a hybrid: part hotel, part condominium. We stayed there in 1992 as condominium guests and hated those units. They were small, dark and colorless. I understand that the hotel units may be better. The neighborhood is great though. It fronts on a pretty, soft sand crescent-shaped beach with good views of neighbor islands and Molokini.

I stayed at the Maui Coast a couple of years ago. The place was great for the price. The hotel is across the street from a very nice beach (2 minute walk). The outdoor bar area had entertainment every night which was great because there isn't much happening on Maui at night. The hotel was within walking distance of several restaurants. For the money it's a good choice, however if I return to Maui or Kauai I would rent a condo or an apartment. There was a nice apartment right on the beach across from the Maui Coast that went for $100 a night. You also have the opportunity to prepare your own meals which is great if you are on a budget or when you get tired of eating out.
