Which Islands

I know this may be a tough question and I'm sure the answers will vary greatly, but here goes: My fiance and I are planning a 2 week trip to Hawaii in Nov. We were thinking of visiting just two islands. We'd like to experience the culture as well as the natural beauty of Hawaii. Which two islands would you recommend? Thanks

I liked kaui for the lush beauty of the island... and Maui for the surfing...

Our 1st trip, we did Maui, Big Island, and Oahu (only 2 days). The only reson we really considered Oahu is because of Pearl Harbor and, because we were using frequent flyer miles, the only way to get home was through Honolulu anyway.

This time were are doing Maui, Kauai, and Oahu (two days again).

I would recommend Maui and the Big Island as definites for a 1st trip. Maui has the most to do and see. Volcanoes National Park, in my opinion, is a must for the 1st trip.

If you go to Volcanoes, make sure to drive down to the ocean where the lava flows into the sea. Do it near dusk. As the sun goes down, the plume turns from white to orange. The side of the mountain lights up with orange lights from where holes have been punched in the active lava tubes. Once it gets really dark, you will see more stars than you ever have in your life. BUT, bring a flashlight because it si pitch black and you'll have to walk over some old lava flows to see the plume.

I'd also recommend Maui and The Big Island! I also agree with Mo about visiting the volcano at dusk. We got there early enough to walk as close to the lava as permitted in the daylight and then only had the walk out in the dark. A good flashlight for each of you is a must! Also plan ahead about food. There aren't many places to eat in the area. We wound up at the golf course restaurant and it was almost closing time. Some locals we spoke with intervened for us and convince the cook to prepare a simple meal for us.
