Which hotel to stay in Kauai

I am working on the plans for our trip to Hawaii in Sept for our 35th anniversary. I think I've finally decided on The Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott on Hawaii, but am having a hard time with Kauai. I'm looking at the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort in Lihue, where I can get a better deal, and the Sheraton Kauai in Koloa, which I think may be a better location. Any information regarding either place would be very much appreciated. Also, any comments about the other hotels would be helpful and appreciated. We will be in Hawaii for 14 days, 3 in Honolulu, 4 in Kauai and 7 on BI.Thanks for any imput!

Congrats on 35 years!!!! If you get oceanfront/ocean view at the Sheraton you will be on a very nice beach. If you have to have a garden room then pick another hotel. The garden rooms are dreary and dreadful and across the road from the main hotel.

Love the Waikoloa Marriott!!!

Sounds like a marvelous vacation.

Congratulations on the anniversary. Between the two hotels you mentioned I would choose the Sheraton because of the good beachfront location and the proximity to good restaurants in the Poipu area. It is not a luxury property and if I stayed there I would choose the rooms that are right on the rocky oceanfront part of the resort. You can swim at the beach at the Sheraton and I don't think the beach at the Hilton is swimmable, but I may be wrong. Is there a reason you are not considering the Hyatt or the Marriott in Lihue?

Check out the new Waipouli Beach Resort in Kapaa. We recently stayed there and and rented thru vrbo.com
You can also go thru Outrigger. It's a great brand new property.

I was not a huge fan of the Marriott in Lihue. The grounds and pool are fantastic. The rooms were worn down and musty (in 2002). I've been told that they have been remodeled since.

I paid for an oceanview room. All I could see were palm trees and the roof of the lobby. The staff was not very helpful until I got to the general manager.

The onsite restaurants were not very good. I didn't care for the beach. It was man-made and the fine sand made the water murky. The beach is in a small harbor that is also the port for ships coming & going. The resort is also essentially next door to the airport, so you will hear planes landing & taking off.

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week stay on Kauai. We leased a beach front, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 3 lanai condo. We are so pleased with our stay at the Kauai beach Villas in Lihue. We enjoyed the sunrise on the lanai as we had our morning Kauai coffee.

The location was prefect, central to all the sights. It was like we had a home away from home. No charge for parking, no hidden extra fees. We are certainly going to return.
The property is right next to the Hilton and we were asked we leave their pool and told we could ask the Villas' office for a pass which would cost $15.00 per day. The complex has a pool but the pathway from our unit took us right to the Hilton. Sorry Hilton family. O(.

And last but not least NO INSECTS !!!!!!!!!! And a washer dryer in the unit!!!!!

FYI, the original post dates to May 2007. We should probably ask natmig what she is planning for her 36th??
