Which Hawaiian island?
I am planning on travelling to Hawaii in March and am not sure which island to visit. We will be there for 1 week. We would like a combination of lots of activities including beach time, hiking, snorkelling, night life, golf, kayaking, etc.
Which island do you recommend we visit?
Thanks for your help!

Sounds like Maui might be your best bet. Kauai is beautiful and quite scenic. But, it's not known for its nightlife. Oahu has plenty of nightlife in and around Honolulu and Waikiki, but probably a little to developed to get a true feel for Hawaii.
To me, Maui is probably your best bet. Although, parts of the Big Island, might have some of what your looking for. I've not been so I can't opine on the BI.

In one week, you'll be able to visit one island. Maui is the obvious choice for many and we've been there several times. However, it is quite developed and if you want a lot of nightlife, its the place to be. Stay around Kaanapali beach and you'll have a lot of restaurants, shops and bars to choose from. Go down to Makena or Kehei and its much quieter. I would say our favorite island is Kauai. We've stayed on the northshore and on Poipu beach. It has also grown since our first visit 18 years ago - on Poipu, you'll have restaurants, bars, etc as well. The Napali coast is incredible for snorkeling, kayaking, zodiac boats, etc. The valleys are great for hiking and Waimea canyon is pretty special. The big island is almost like two different places - the sun coast and Hilo. The sun coast will have the resorts, not as many beaches, nightlife and golf courses. The big draw there is volcano national park. Golf is available on all islands at a hefty price. For the first time, probably Maui would work. We visited Kauai on our first trip after 5 days in Maui and didn't go back to Maui for 15 years. Not knowing your ages or number in the group, its a little hard to say.

I'd have to encourage you to spend your week on Oahu. There is so much to do there - the beach, of course, but not just Waikiki. Rent a car and drive to Kailua, Lanikai and Waimanalo beaches - GREAT beaches, and not crowded. Also, the north shore beaches are gorgeous - just beware of the surf, it gets pretty rough & wild sometimes.
There's Chinatown, the Iolani Palace, Diamond Head, Punchbowl, the Arizona Memorial & Mighty Mo, just to name a few places to visit. Nightlife is best on Oahu, and there are too many great restaurants to mention. Shoppng is fun and you have many venues to choose from.
Don't be discouraged from visiting Oahu by those who think it doesn't reflect the true Hawaii - IT DOES!! And there's SO much to choose from you won't be bored for a minute.

I would like to put my 2 cents worth for Kauai. Been to all of the others and Kauai is the one I return to over and over and over - just returned from my 10th trip there. Hiking is wonderful in the Canyon and NaPali, golf, horseback riding, snorkeling, swimming, and a new thing Tubbing down some old planatation canals. There is fishing, whale watching, kayaking on the river or in the ocean. If you are looking for "disco" night life, you won't find it in Kauai but there are plenty of places where one can go for enterainment but not Oahu or Maui style.
Many people say don't go to Kauai cause it rains all the time. Not once in 10 trips have I been rained out. it is the most beautiful lush, old hawaii island, hence it is called the Garden Isle. March should be nice weather but you will porbably find more sun in Poipu area as compared to Northshore but Northshore area has some great funky towns and great beahes that you won't want to miss.
Aloha.
