Keith.. have you made it to Altoona yet to try the Prairie Nut Hut, featuring mountain oyster sandwiches & basket dinners?

Very Good!! You did a good job. My
DH's brother & wife are the ones who owned & reopened it in the mid-'90's, then sold after 5 years. The Rohr burger is my favorite, I always order it. The only bad thing was the owners back in the 50's to '80's made their own BBQ sauce that was out of this world. She was still living when my BIL bought it, but she would not give them the recipe. Even on her death bed, her daughter tried to get it out of her and she wouldn't tell it. Right out of high school, I worked in Topeka and spent time (as the receptionist) talking to truck drivers who hauled for the company and everyone of them knew of Altoona and the A&B Tavern.

I might also add that since you took your pictures, they have put new siding and painted the outside of the building, it looks a lot better.

Thanks for visiting and doing the nice page on the PNH!

I just don't get steak houses.

$50 porterhouse
$10 baked pototo
$8 asparagus

I grilled the perfect petite sirloin tonight, quickly marinated in lemon zest and juice, olive oil, rosemary and garlic. It rivaled any steakhouse steak for a pittance of the cost.

I prefer to dine at expensive restaurants that offer a dining experience I can't top at home. And tell me about dry aged and choice and prime and the bottom line is, I have prepared darn good steaks at home.
