where to stay with kids

Hi, I need some help. I had reserved a room for December at the Plaza for my two daughters (10 and 8) and I. Got a letter, and they are closing for renovations, and I need to find alternate lodging. Not sure where might be comprable...would like to stay in the area, and keep it under $500/night. Thanks so much for any advice!

Well for kids, there's nothing really comparable that's been in movies like Home Alone and featured in books like Eloise but you should be able to get either the Ritz Carlton or the Westin Essex House for that price, both of which are nearby and both of which are miles better as far as hotels are concerned. The Parker Meridien is also nearby and has an indoor swimming pool (although not sure about rules for kids using it) but is very modern looking.

Is this for NYC? On the main US board we can't see which state this was posted under, so that's my best guess.

The St.Regis is also a historical landmark and a much nicer hotel than The Plaza. Location is just down Fifth Avenue from the Plaza also.
