suggestions for theater with kids in February

We are headed for London for a week in February and I was looking for current recommendations for theater. The kids are 13, 10, and 8. Wouls Pirates of Penzance be over their heads? Thanks for any suggestions.

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is currently playing at the Paladium and my then 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think I'm right in saying that Pirates finishes next week and Anthony Head changes roles for "Peter Pan" but this could be a nice show also. Obviously I've not seen any reviews yet.

I don't know if it's still playing, but the musical "Buddy" about the life of Buddy Holly is full of great music that will have you wanting to tap your feet and sing along. It has had an incredibly long run in London because of its popularity. It's for the most part a very happy movie, and one the kids would probably enjoy a lot. Good luck.

I know very few kids who "get" the humor of Gilbert and Sullivan, so I wouldn't suggest Pirates for them. Chitty, Chitty is a good bet, and frankly although the theme is a bit serious, I've seen many kids that age entranced with Blood Brothers.
To me knowledge, Buddy closed several years ago, and I again I can't picture most kids that age getting a "kick" out of the Buddy Holly story.

I'm guessing they've seen Lion King?

Pirates of Penzance is a great choice for your kids and it will not be over their heads if you share the story synopsis with them first. I just took my 11 yo and she loved it. The audience was filled with kids and the laughs were very loud.

It seems that both Pirates of Penzance and Peter Pan are being performed in February at the Savoy Theatre with the same cast.

I should add that one thing which added to the fun for the kids at the recent Pirates of Penzance was the company's use of the translator screen. Even though the show was in English, the words come fast and furious to the songs, and the kids delighted in seeing the English words. If London's translator screen shows French or German, the kids might be intimidated.

Another nod for "Chitty". But, my 15 year old son voted for "We Will Rock You"--the show based on the music of Queen. He also enjoyed "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged" but your kids are probably a bit young for Shakespeare (even the funny take-off version).

My children (ages 14 and 11) really enjoyed The Mousetrap - the Agatha Christie play that has become a legend.

The Flanneruk godchildren of that age are currently voting overwhelmingly for "His Dark Materials" at the National.

The 13 year old also likes "Anything Goes" at Drury Lane

Hey Kathryn, wasn't it the Butler whodunnit in the Mousetrap?
