Where to Stay - Ft. Lauderdale

I have never been to Florida. In March, my wife and I are going to Vero Beach and Ft. Lauderdale (flying in and out of Orlando). Trying to find a nice place to stay which is central for 3 nights- probably close to Ft. Lauderdale. I do not mind driving. Looking at no more than $200 per night (of course, less would be nice). Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the price but the Pelican Beach Resort was lovely. It's only about a five minute drive from Los Olas Drive but in a very quiet location. And it's right on the beach.

Me again. If the prices are too high, check expedia. You can get a bit of a price break there.

By the way, one of the reviews there says that the pool area is too shady in winter and I'd agree with this. It was my only complaint (we were there in December 06). However, there's always the beach.

Thanks. We just need a place to stay. We will be going to a couple of ball games and touring a bit around.

Hi baseball. You do realize that FLL in March means Spring Break? If I were you, I'd pick a non-beach hotel, or a place a bit away from the activity.

i'm not certain but my understanding is that the spring break hordes have pretty much moved elsewhere.

Thats correct hdm....it's not the wild party scene it once was! However, it is still quite crowded at that time and the rates are usually high.

For an off the beach experience, try the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Blvd or the Hampton Inn, a few blocks away. The Riverside has a lovely pool area on the New River notable for world class yachts. Both hotels are not on the beach but less than 1 mile.
