Kauai North shore--romantic restaurant

My fiance and I are going to Kauai for our honeymoon in April (his first time to the Islands). We're staying on the North shore because, though I've explored by day trips, I haven't truly dug in and had time to enjoy it. I always like to arrange for at least one fabulous (and pricey) dinner while I am "on island"--great food, drinks, dessert, view. What would your recommendation be for the North shore? And, do we need to make reservations before we arrive (I'm thinking of The Beachhouse down South where you need reservations for any hope of a table at sunset)?

Whoo-hoo! Gettin' married and returning to my favorite place in the world--all in the span of 24 hours!

We've had a romantic, sunset dinner on the lanai at Cafe Hanalei at the Princeville Hotel. I understand that La Cascata, the other restaurant at the Princevile Hotel is also great for a nice romantic dinner. I would make reservations at either.

There have been posts here about people who have arranged for a private beachfront dinner at the Princeville Hotel. That would be fun.

Our favorite place to eat on the north shore is Postcards in Hanalei. Might not be the fancy romantic place you are looking for, but it is a fantastic place for a nice meal in Hanalei.

Renovations of the Princeville Hotel are due to begin March/April -- and La Cascata will be closing.

No official word yet on whether Cafe Hanalei will remain open...

All entertainers -- except the two piano players -- have already received their pink-slips. This is their last week at the hotel. No more Hawaiian stuffs until the hotel renovates and re-opens as a St. Regis property.

auntie, Is the hotel closing or are they just scaling back on services? Is the Livingroom closing too?

Hotel will remain open during renovations -- and will be offering "construction zone" discounted room rates, we're told.

Living Room will remain open -- no major renovations planned for that area.

FYI for those who are acquainted with the layout of the hotel's lobby -- left side will be the new spa (!!)...closing the one which has been part of the Prince Golf clubhouse. Makes soooo much more sense to have the Princeville Spa actually IN the Princeville Hotel, yes?

Our favorite restaurant on the north shore is Lighthouse Bistro -- we went there after we got married on the beach. We liked it so much we went there again our last night in Kauai. We also enjoyed Postcards very much -- but Lighthouse Bistro seems a bit more romantic IMO.

Our family has gone to Kauai several times over the last few years. Most recently we were there in November. For the different special occasions that we've been to Kauai we have been at Cafe Hanalei at the Princeville and to The Beachhouse. Both have been fantastic. We were at Princeville for my parents 50th anniversary and then 5 years later for my brother's 25th anniversary. It was fantastic. For my parents 60th anniversary we went to The Beachhouse and it was out of this world. Since we were staying on the eastern side of the island, we did have a limo take us to The Beachhouse. It was something special!!
