Where to go for 36 hrs, close to San Diego...

Where can I meet my father for 36hrs, within a 2hr flight from San Diego in August?

He flies from Cincinnati & I fly from San Diego. We only have 36hrs, (Sat morning to Sun afternooon) because I'll be leaving my kids at home. We've been to Las Vegas and San Francisco previous years. Where to next? We mostly sightsee and dine, any suggestions? Thank you!

I was thinking the southwest somewhere - Santa Fe came to mind - but I don't know about the weather in August. How about Lake Tahoe? Lots of sights to see there.

Portland is 2 hrs and 25 minutes if you can spare a bit over 2 hours.

Lake Tahoe would be lovely. Also, have you been to Monterey and/or Carmel?

Thank you for the ideas. I think we are going to visit Las Vegas again. We were only there for a day last year. I think there is plenty we haven't seen yet. And we both like the shows and some gambling. Thank you again!

WHY LEAVE SAN DIEGO??? It's such a beautiful city--why not just spend time together there?

There's so much to do: Great Beaches, great downtown district, Tijuana via the trolley, the Padres' NEW baseball stadium, La Jolla, Balboa Park.

Man--if I were meeting my dad, I'd just go to a ballgame, then head to Mission Beach for a beer or two afterwards on the many eateries along the boardwalk...or just walk to the downtown Gaslam district and knock back a few. Or maybe meet for dinner somewhere in La Jolla.

Geez, don't waste your precious time travelling away from SD. There's so much to do there!

I live in San Diego and my father visits here 3 or 4 times a year. He will actually be here with us for a week, then we fly out together somewhere for an overnight trip, so we visit someplace new and I can get away from my kids!

Lake Tahoe sounds like a great idea, but my father was just there with my sister. She was riding in 100 mile bike ride for Lymphoma research.

Thanks for the ideas! Have a great week!
