We used to enjoy Thompson's Clam Bar in Harwichport on Cape Cod when it had the ocean front location on Nantucket Sound. We loved sitting outside for lunch or early evening dinner and watch the ocean and boats. We miss it! Are there any other places on the water in the Harwich or Chatham area to get a great dinner and/or a great drink? Ocean view is very important.

thirsty, Yes, Thompson's Clam Bar, I loved that place! Your standard seafood place, what a great spot. I miss it too. I hope someone responds with an alternative, I'd love to hear about it.

What about Chatham Bars Inn? Don't they have a nice roof bar?

Spots like you described are, believe it or not, hard to find on the Cape. the Wequasset has a view but it is not on the ocean.

How about it all you Cape Cod dwellers? Any suggestions for thirsty? I heard it is very hot in New England right now. Thirsty wants that ocean side gin and tonic on Cape Cod!

Has anyone else out there found a great ocean side place for a nice lunch or dinner and a cool drink. It was 101 today in my area about 30 miles north of Boston so I'm REALLY thirsty.

"We're going to Thompson's Clam Bar...Cause thats where the tastiest clams are..." I loved it too. Here are a couple of places that are not quite Thompsons but have some similarities:

Mattakese Wharf restaurant overlooking Barnstable Harbor. Landfall reestaurant right on the water near the Steamship docks in Wood's Hole. Tugboats restaurant on Lewis Bay in Hyannis.

There are many restaurants on Commercial street in Provincetown with rear decks that face Provincetown Harbor such as the Lobster Pot, Mews, Dancing Lobster etc.

The beauty of Thompson's was the yachts and sailboats that would pass right by your table on their way to and from the ocean.

More "on the water" Cape Cod restaurants: Beachcomber, Wellfleet; Ocean House, Depot Street, Dennis; and Chart House, Catuamet (you won't believe the sunset here).

Gene, I remember being at Thompson's and the boats woud pull up for dinner. You could be served right on your boat or in the restaurant. Once years ago, when someone noticed how interested our son was in all the boats, they invited us on their boat to take a look. I heard that whole complex is shut down now. Too bad - it had a fabulous location.

BEACHCOMBER- Wellfleet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its far from Harwich/Chatham/Orleans/etc but if you are near the canal then Horizons on Sandwich is nice.

Baxters in Hyannis Harbor is outdoors as well but you might have to purchase food. Its fun watching the boats here.

I love the Beachcomber (might be there tomorrow!) but its more a frozen drinks party scene rather than a place for a relaxing cocktail.

Matakeese (sp?) Wharf in Barnstable harbor is on the water but the menu and atmosphere is stuck in 1982.

(I'm spending far too much time at work thinking about this...at least its air conditioned)

Poppanesset Inn in New Seabury is very nice too. The views are beautiful. Its the best resteraunt view on the Cape after the Ocen House.

What about the Brax Landing in Harwich? It's on the water with a great view of the harbor! Went there a few years ago. Is it stil open?

Yes, Bob, Brax Landing is still open.

Really good lobster rolls at Brax's Landing also.
