Back from our trip out West, which was just filled with the breathtaking magnificence of the Western U.S. The Denver Zoo was good, not great probably due to the fact that there is an ongoing renovation and a lot of animals have been "loaned" for the time being. Interesting to see a pregnant giraffe, orangutan, bear, and hypo (what's in the water?).
Jibbo, very good point! On that note, I highly recommend the Bear Country USA wildlife park near Rapid City, South Dakota. It was tremendous fun. Go very early when the animals are most active. They have a petting zoo at the end that is so much fun as well.

I didn't notice anyone mentioning the Atlanta zoo. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Atlanta. They had terrible trouble years ago, with animals dying, and the city fathers got together and made something of that zoo, ensuring the animals had enough space and natural habitats, as much as possible. They focus on an African safari, with a famous exhibit of gorillas.
I like the Shedd Aquarium also.
