Hi everyone -

I have only one night and one day in Oahu for my honeymoon before we fly to the big island - I have read here that you should get to Pearl Harbor early - but how much time do you need to see everything there? I think we are catching a plane the day I was planning on seeing it at around 5pm. Any advice would be appreciated!

We're in the same boat, so to speak (1 day on Oahu). We
booked a Roberts tour of Pearl Harbor and the city. Early hotel pickup around 6:15 a.m. (11:15 eastern time). We return before lunch, giving us the afternoon to stroll Waikiki before a dinner hour flight to Maui. We're betting Roberts can move the group without a long wait. If so, it's worth the modest price.

If you go when park first opens I think you can do it in a couple hours. If you skip either the musuem or boat ride to arizona memorial, it will take less time. I recommend waiting for the boat trip to the memorial, the musuem you can go as fast as you like.

Do not, under any circumstances, skip the ride out to the Arizona Memorial. That is the highlight of Pearl Harbor for me. If you have time before your boat, you can visit the bowfin submarine right next door as well as the museum. If you get to the harbor early you can easily be done before noon.

I completely agree with SuzieTrue. You can't go and not go on the boat out to the memorial. It was such a moving experience it gave me chills. We were there 2 weeks after 09/11 so it was even more moving and emotional.

We rented a car and drove there ourselves and took the boat to the memorial and after that went aboard the USS Missouri (mighty MO) and if I remember correctly, we did all this within 2 hours.

I second the other posters - get there early and go through the museum while you wait for your group to be called for the trip to the memorial. The museum is informative, but not very big, so you can read everything and still go through it fairly quickly. Set aside some time to read through the markers down by the water describing the attack and pointing out places of interest around the harbor. The Bowfin submarine next door is well worth a tour - use the headsets narrated by the former captain of the sub.

Even after all that - you're still looking at only 3-4 hours.

We were there July 10th. We got there at 11am and there was a 3 hour wait for the movie/boat. A couple couldn't stay and gave us a number that moved us up an hour. Every 15 minutes they call a number and that group goes in for the movie and then the boat. By 12:30 the sign went up that they were out of tickets for the day. Hint: the bathrooms were cleaner and less crowded over at the USS Bowfin Submarine.

I would get there by 7:00 am at the latest. That will be the shortest wait of the day. With luck you'll be on the first boat while everybody else just gets more and more packed in the visitors center. Do that and you can be done by 9:00 or 9:30.
