vegasnative... Yes, I know... that's why I really toned it down (kidding, I'm kidding).
Really, I would want someone to do a bit of extra research if Vegas was for them before flying all the way from Asia. That's all.

I'm with you, Colorado Julie - I cannot imagine a more depressing place to spend Christmas than Las Vegas. Except of course if you live in Vegas, b/c personally, I prefer being home for the holidays. (But that was not the original question).
My vote is also NYC, just be prepared for massive crowds on the weekends.

I am partial to Santa Fe or Taos but I'm sure that's because I grew up out there and so it seems like the place to have Christmas. All the luminarios, the smell of pinon in the fires. The nip in the air. That's the place for me.

We go to South Lake Tahoe most every year for Christmas. It's very festive with lights/snow on the pine trees, Christmas music, and skiing. Not to mention the most beautiful scenery with mountains and the lake.

you guys are all great! looks like NYC is winning in our list so far. problem is my friends are also suggesting barcelona. aargh. too many choices. need to reserve a hotel soon.
i once traveled to nyc first 2 weeks in Jan (a blizzard just ended when i got there), and i can imagine how cold it must get. but would be great to experience snow for christmas--for us in the tropics anything in the 60s is "winter".
if you have any more suggestions- outside the US would also be great. we are targeting Dec 23-Jan 1.
thanks guys!

Barcelona is stunning! My fav city in the world but its not very festive. I'd really consider Prauge. I've just got back and was amazed how lovely it was. What about Amsterdam? Not sure if youd get snow though.
