Christmas Las Vegas
Hi,
Will arrive in Las Vegas on 23rd Dec. Family of 4 including 2 kids aged 19 (student) and 14 year old. Where is best to go for Christmas Eve......would "O" be o.k. and where is good for Christmas Day Lunch...willing to splurge a little but not way over the top prices.

"O" would be great for Christmas Eve, but buy your tickets now! Any of the big restaurants and all of the hotels will have Christmas lunches & dinners. It is actually a good time to come here, it is a "slow" time, from after Thanskgiving to Christmas is one of our slowest times. Obviously the next week will be insane for New Years, but Christmas time is decent.

Thanks for quick reply especially since we have been having a big debate as to whether we made the right choice i.e. Las Vegas for Christmas and San Francisco for New Year or vice-versa. From your comments, it seems we made the right choice. Thought Las Vegas would be too stressful since we are also travelling from v.far away - Cyprus. Will be staying at the Luxor. Is 7 nights o.k.for Las Vegas?........I don't really include the first night (23rd) since we will be exhausted upon arrival - so really it's 24th Dec and check out on the 29th. Will try to do one out of town trip (Red Rock Canyon) and maybe another 1/2 day trip out of town too.

Just my opinion, but w/kids, I think you might want at least one other day trip. The casinos are *very* strict about anyone under 21 on the casino floors and there is only so much shopping one can do...Also at that time of year it is often too cold for the pools.

Don't have to worry about icy roads anywhere near Vegas. There are alot of quick trips you can make, Red Rock Canyon, Mt.Charleston (this is our ski area, but typically snow is just near the ski resort and the roads are open during Dec., most snow is Jan./Feb), there is a lower level lodge/area that should be open for travel no problem. Also you can visit Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas and Hoover Dam are all in the same area. While there you will be in Boulder City (the only town in Nevada where gambling is illegal.) You can also visit Lake Havasu (about 2 hrs away) and see the London Bridge and nearby Oatman (old cowboy town with gun battles in the street and donkeys roaming free). Ethel M chocolate factory and cactus garden is off the Strip and might be fun.

Just remember that if you're planning to hit any of the "popular" restaurants or buffets, they have this ridiculous idea of jacking up the prices for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Also, the lines are OUTRAGEOUS! I don't know how it is during the few days right before Christmas, but we were there last year for Christmas Eve and Day, and it was just as crowded, if not more so, than any other weekend!

Forgot to add....we tried going to the Bellagio buffet for brunch on Christmas Day and we got there around 11:30 and the line was way out the door!! And they said they weren't taking any more people for the rest of the day!!...because the line was so long already!
