Where is Maui glass beach?
I have a friend that just received a glass necklace and bracelet from a friend of hers that lives in California. The friend goes to the beach and collects the different colored glass on the beach and then makes jewelery. It is beautiful. I guess there was a glass factory near buy and years ago they dumped the broken pieces into the ocean and over the years it has wash back and forth onto the beach and now looks like rocks and really smooth. I thought I read something on the internet a year or so ago about a beach on Maui that has this type of glass also. But the glass on the Maui beach is from the big glass balls that the fisherman used to use and it has washed up on the beach. Does anyone know where this beach is on Maui and how you get there? We are going to Maui in March 2004 and I would love to visit this type of beach. I have done several searches on the interent and have just come up with the jewerly you can buy - but nothing about where the glass comes from. Does anyone know anything about this beach on Maui and how to get to it? Thank you for any info.

The only Glass Beach that I know about is on Kauai, not Maui.
The beach is on the southern shore of the island about 20 minutes or so from Poipu in an industrial area. I'm sure someone else could give you better info but I would recommend the Kauai Revealed book for better details.
BTW, they say you are not supposed to take any glass from the beach.

Thanks everyone!! I will have to ask around when I get there in March. I just think it would be fun to look at the glass and how it has been tumbled and smoothed over the years by the ocean. Really beautiful if you have ever seen jewelry out of it. When I did a search for glass beach - lots of sites came up in Maui to where you can buy the handmade glass jewelry.
