We, too, are staying home. However, our little town on Lake Minnetonka does the 4th right. So many activities including a 10K for grown ups, a sand castle building contest for the little ones and an ice cream social for everyone. Then, all the kids hop on their decorated bikes, scooters, strollers, whatever and march in the parade behind the local firetruck. There is a little festival on the commons by the lake and then the Minnesota Orchestra plays in the evening before the fireworks over the lake. About as Apple Pie as one can get. My favorite time of year. Can't wait.

Looks liks Tiff and I booked at the same travel agent!
We also will be traveling to our backyard for a BBQ with my parents, BUT then we will travel out front to the driveway when it gets dark to light fireworks for the kids! We can usually see a few fireworks from a big park nearby that does a big firework display. I wouldn't mind taking the kids to this park to see them, but it would mean going early for a parking spot and being outside awhile and it is SO HOT! I'm with you Heavens, BOO HOO, I have some family going to Brianhead to watch the big firework display they do, wish we could go but DH has to work Wed. and it is a 3+ hour drive home for us from there. So, I will settle for backyard and then the front yard!

I've travelled twice on the 4th, lived in D.C. around a few holidays so I was at the action. Now I just want to spend it at home enjoying quiet, my house, yard and 2 dogs and 3 cats doing some house and yardwork. To me this is heaven.

We're just driving down the road to Bullard Texas where they'll be some folks singing C&W music and the high school band will play patriotic music.
The local church ladies will have cake, homemade pies, watermelon and iced tea. A couple of good ol' boys will make barbecue.
Then the local volunteer Fire Department will shoot off a bunch of fireworks.
We'll be black and white, Hispanic, native American and even a couple of Asians (that would be me and my family) and we'll all watch sitting on folding camp chairs and from the back of our pick up trucks.
Finally, we'll all join in singing God Bless America and we'll mean it.
May you all have as good a day.

Right now we are 3 weeks out of the SunShineState visiting in the midwest. After the 4th we will be heading more to the north and then turning west. Can't decide if we want to go thru the UP of MI or a little more to the north and around the Big Lake. Heading to the Rocky Mountains of Canada for some camping and then going to work our way west and south before turning east and for home.
