Where are u traveling to for the fourth?

Seems like everyone is going somewhere except us. You know how that seems to happen, when everyone goes and you stay behind: BOOHOO!

So, do you get to go somewhere and party, picnic, ballgame? Or do you have to stay home like us?

Traveling to our back yard.

We got a really great fare.

And some drink coupons.

Plenty of lawn chairs, no need to get up early and 'save a spot'.

Another loser here

But I am not going to stay at home all 4 days! In San Francisco, there is always some public event. And when there is none - on Monday - we have guests.

We're not staying home, but we're not taking a trip either.

We'll meet up with friends at the lake. We will park our houseboats at the beach and spend the long weekend there - generally being lazy, but occasionally getting up the energy to shoot off some fireworks.

Hope everyone has a great 4th!

To the mountains! Great fireworks on the mountain lake - hundreds of boat but so quiet you could hear a pin drop - until the boom of the fireworks start bouncing off the boat docks!

Friends from Tucson are flying here to Portland, OR to visit us. We will do a huge block party with all the neighbors. Everyone brings their grills out and it is one big potluck. Then everyone does their fireworks together, and it is quite a show. Since usually our summers begin on the 5th, we are headed that day to the coast for a few nights.

4th of July in Austin, Texas:

Our neighborhood puts together a parade for the kiddos down the streets. They're so cute all dressed in their patriotic whatevers, bicycles adorned with crepe paper streamers, flags, balloons, Sousa music. You sit on the curb and watch them all ride by.

Then it's BBQ time - baby back ribs fresh from the smoker, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, and peach cobbler with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream!

At night, there's a big fireworks show downtown. We go to the high school and watch from the stadium.

Y'all are welcome to join us!

My husband and dad and little brother are going backpacking in Oregon.

I'm taking my toddler camping Friday and Saturday. Wish me luck!

Then we're visiting my in-laws on Sunday and Monday.

And like Tiff, we'll travel to the backyard on the 4th for a nice picnic dinner.

We stay put. I love our local parade with the Harley's. The dogs have little jackets and sometimes, the women have shaved for the occasion.
Muscle cars, the horses, politicians pretending to be honest~good times.
Fireworks are fun, though ours are quite late because of the daylight in Ak... any excuse for a good bbq and maybe a boat ride on a local lake, or a campfire on the beach

We are staying home too. I don't really like to travel on holiday weekends. Much more fun to stay home and BBQ, get together with friends and family, that sort of thing.

I can't decide! My options are to stay home with my DH, who unfortunately has to work every day this weekend, and my dog, who throws her little body into a total spasm at the mere hint of loud fireworks -- enjoying my central air, king-sized bed, screened-in porch or the hammock on the back deck -- all the while alternating between relaxing, drinking, eating and packing. (moving the end of July!) Sounds kind of lame, doesn't it?

Option B is to leave DH at home, pack up the neurotic dog and fill her little body with mega doses of doggie downers (all natural, of course) and go camping at Silver Lake, Michigan by the sand dunes. I have a very large tent already set up on some private property where there will be lots of other people, fun & fireworks over the sand dunes. The dog will be hyperventilating and trying to climb on top of my head to escape the noise the whole time, but it certainly beats packing! (did I mention I hate moving??)

Hmmm... sounds like I'll go with option B.

We'll be home, too. We may take a day trip on Monday or Tuesday otherwise we'll be here...watching the grass grow... :-" Our house is on a hill so it's a lot of fun to watch the legal as well as the illegal fireworks go off around the city from the front of the house.

DH and I will be staying home. After driving 9,641 miles round trip to Alaska and back home to Minnesota, just got back yesterday (Tuesday 27th) I do not want to get in the car and go anywhere for awhile. lol So we will treat it as just another day.
