Down the street to swim in neighbor's pool and then back home to host annual neighborhood lobster feast. Then to front yard to light fireworks gathered on travels thru South Carolina. If I blow off my hand I will have difficulty posting here.

To the backyard also. It's awesome out there. The food is fantastic and my poor dog will need me. She hates fireworks. The other day we had thunder she was quivering all day.

Going to Cortez CO, Durango CO and Ouray CO. We'll be escaping the Texas heat for a week and are really looking forward to it!

Leaving Sat. for 10 days in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Unfortunately, there is a presidential election, and no liquor sales for the first two days we will be there.

Fortunately, there is a 1 liter per person liquor import allowance to Mexico!

Diana - without turning this thread political - if the US banned alcohol sales for 2 days around elections, would it improve or degrade the results? What if they made alcohol consumption mandatory before voting?

Good question, Gail, but I don't know the answer. I usually wait to drink until after the election is stolen!

gail, I guess Mexico has a history of more volatile elections than the U.S., ergo the ban.

The election is on Sunday, I think.

From the wording on the edict, it appears they are doing it to allay chances of violence.

Unfortunately, if they made drinking prior to/during an election mandatory here in the States, I imagine voter apathy would be even worse than it is.

Interesting question!

So, I guess no one keeps any spirits in their home ? I'm pretty sure I could finish out the year w/the stockpile I have (I'm a wino though)...That is almost too funny.

Perhaps mandatory drinking at the polling site prior to voting could solve the potential voter apathy problem?

Off to Cape Cod with what seems like at least 50% of the population of New England, but not by choice!

We are staying home and having a few bar b que's over the weekend, watch the local fireworks and have lots of Margaritas. Most of my travels will be to the market and the liquor store.

I love to cook so it's like a vacation for me - and I get to show off a little We are planning 3 different "themes" this year....Caribbean Grill, Lobster fest and All American...I love to entertain.

We usually like being home for hoilday weekends as everything is so crowded.

We are leaving for Captiva on the 9th...I hear there's actually sunshine down there! Being on LI we have had more rain than sun.

We're going to Austin this weekend. We'll actually spend all of the 4th flying home, but usually someone sets off fireworks around here, even though it's illegal.

To the Lake! Lake Martin, AL, with teenage posse of boys who just visited Shelton's fireworks (the Largest Fireworks Store in the World) for somebody's birthday! Cover your ears now, Alabama!

We are driving from St. Louis to Madison, WI for the long holiday weekend. It will be a relaxing road trip, and we are bringing the dog. Nothing too exciting, but its always nice to get away.

my dog Beatrice (a border collie mix) shivers at thunderstorms too and pants real loud, makes me dread them too by her behavior. Bo my other dog could not care less.

Someone mentioned "natural" doggie downers for the poor little pups that shiver and pant at the 1st sound of fireworks. Can you pass along what this is and if it works?

I have to board my pup on July 4th - he literally passed out one year from getting himself so riled up!
